I have been using SD without major issues on my Galaxy S4 for a few months, but since yesterday when I upgraded to 2.7.2 there have been some problems. I have had to kill the app many times after it appears to get "stuck" on pop-up menus such as "Open Route from Cloud", "Find Plates", "TAF" (in particular finding weather for a particular airfield) and a few other cases. The behaviour is that everything appears to be working normally, but the menu doesn't disappear when the action (such as opening the route) is finished. The back button has no effect and I haven't found any solution other than using the Task Manager to kill SD. This never happened with the previous versions, so I assume it is connected with something that changed in the latest version. It is slightly weird because the problem seems intermittent i.e. sometimes it doesn't happen, and then all of a sudden it gets stuck doing something that has just worked a few minutes ago. I have tried uninstalling SD and reinstalling from scratch but it didn't make any difference. Has anyone else had similar issues, or am I just out of luck with the new version on the S4? In which case please would someone let me know how to revert to the previous version?

I'm having the same problem on a HTC One. Also, the text doesn't appear on some buttons (the buttons on the welcome screen show "Englis" (no H) and "I" (instead of I Agree)), and the text input field on the search form is wide enough to only see 1 character.

This isn't something we're getting widespread reports of, and I am at a loss to explain it right now. We will monitor the situation closely.

I'm still having the problem, which ultimately makes the app unusable for me. How do I revert to the previous version (which was working fine)? Thanks for your help.
P.S. I also have the text size problem that wb9999 reported above, although that hasn't changed in the latest version.

I don't have these issues on my old HTC Sensation (font size and closing pop-up menus all working fine). The HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 have the same screen resolution (1080 x 1920), which is much higher than most phones. I wonder if that it is the cause of the issues that myself and OldDogNew are experiencing.

I bought the Sky Demon yesterday and I am disappointed with running this program on Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - 8" with Android. After downloading AIP when I get into "Find Plates" the menu doesn't disappear when the action is finished. I cant back to the map. The back button has no effect, and there is no any solution other than using the Task Manager to kill SD.

Iam not sure but I think that problem occurs after downloading AIP data base. Even I download only 2-3 plates, I can't shut down the menu and go back to the map.

Could you describe the problem you're having in more detail please? You mention "getting into 'find plates'" but I don't understand what that means. Please decribe the exact actions you take, what you see, and what you expected to see.

Hi,
Same problem for me - Nexus 7 (2), Android 4.3, latest SD (2.7.2.27849)
This is what happens:
When a route has been plotted:
1, Click on Plates tab to get 'Plates' pop-up
2, Select (click) a PDF plate/chart
3, Display (I've used 2 types of PDF viewer - same result each time)
4, Return to the 'Plates' pop-up
5, Now can't get rid of pop-up as 'return' does nothing!
NOTE: If you don't display any plate you can return from the pop-up without a problem
Hope that help.

Exactly as ngc6309 describe the problem.
Moreover when You are flying: When you are entering for example Danger Aera, when you click "Activity Information", when you has read the information, you can't return to the map. You can't get rid of pop-up as 'return' does nothing!

This is the new "Activity Information" feature which takes you to an external browser, is that correct? If so, then I believe we have already located and fixed the issue that is affecting you and the fix will be in the next public release. We may be able to get you a beta release before then too.

Tim, Do you think the fix will also solve the Plates issue and the other menu freeze problems? If so I'd be interested to try the beta version too. Thanks a lot.

I noticed one regularity, when my Samsung is vertical, there is no "Plate" bookmark, when is pop out, then I have to use Samsung button "return" which doesn't work in this case. I mean there is no place to click on the screen to get rid of the pop out, where the device is vertical. When the screen is horizontal there is enough space and I've got the "Plate" bookmark on the left side and when I push "Plate" bookmark, there is OK. I can get rid of the pop out. Sorry for my English, but I am not native speaker

I can replicate this problem on my Android Samsung Galaxy S2 every time by performing the following sequence with SkyDemon in planning mode. (latest V2.7.2 of SkyDemon installed, Android 4.1.2) 1) Set the device in portrait mode. 2) Download all plates in the UK AIP and set plate 'Filtering' to display VFR and IFR plates 3) Press and hold on Newquay (EGHQ), select the airfield and then select 'Find Plates'. Others probably will do the same, but this is the one I'm testing. 5) Select any of the displayed plates in the list to view (in my case this launches Adobe Acrobat reader - not sure if this also applies to other PDF viewers?) 6) Press the phone 'Back' button to close the reader and return to SkyDemon. 7) The list of plates is now displayed again in SkyDemon and no action will now remove this list to return to the map. The 'back' button is inoperative. SkyDemon now has to be killed using a task manager, or the phone reset as there seems to be no way out of here! I hope this helps to track down the problem. If I can be of any further assistance with debugging/testing let me know. Simon. [Edit] PS. I have checked this out on the Nexus 7 and the problem seems to be that on returning from the PDF viewer the Android BACK button is disabled. On the Nexus the Plates popup can be closed by touching the map behind, but on smaller devices in portrait mode the map behind is completely obscured by the Plates popup and this option is therefore not available and there is no way to close the popup.

I am almost certain that we have solved this problem. We will release a beta Android version next week for testing. Thanks all for letting us know and giving us steps to reproduce it.

One another thing. Yesterday I made flight from Poland to France, about 1000 NM. At home before departure I downloaded whole AIP base for Germany and France. AIP plates was avaiable when I had active internet connection.During flight I didn't have acces to the internet and plates was not avaiable for me. Fortunataly I had paper version. In the hotel when I established internet connection plates were avaiable again without downloading, they were with green background, so they were in memory of device.Did anybody experience such things.

Hi, Just wondering how close we are to a solution? It seems like quite a few people are seeing this problem. Mainly it seems to occur with the Plates menu, but I also sometimes get it with other menus. Thanks.

There is a beta build of our Android software out now on our website, it can be downloaded to ascertain whether the issue has been resolved pending the next public release.

Thanks Tim. I downloaded the new version but when I run it the blue SkyDemon start screen appears for a second or two and then the program closes. Any tips to get it working?

The fact it doesn't work on your device is very useful information. Unless we discover why, the next full release of SkyDemon is likely to also be broken on that device, and we don't have one in the office to test on. Can you get into the filesystem of the device? SkyDemon should have written a debug.log file in there, probably within the SkyDemon folder itself. If you can get that file to us, it would really help.

I have had a hunt around on the device (I can see the file system, not sure if some of it is hidden) for a debug.log file and can't find one. Pretty sure there is nothing in the SkyDemon directory or any of its subdirectories. Where else might it be stored? I used the search function on my PC and that didn't come up with anything, and I had a look around by hand. The app does exit very quickly - is it possible it never gets around to writing anything?

I suppose it is possible, yes. The alternative would be for you to get access to the Android log (LogCat) as the crash happens. I'm not sure if there are utilities out there which allow this other than the full Android debugging tools, although a quick Google search resulted in a couple of apps that claim they can show you the log.

I am having the same problem.
SkyDemon doesn't seem to create a debug.log file for me either. I have installed the aLogCat app and the following is the log after a few failed attempts to start SkyDemon on my Galaxy S2 running android 4.3. I hope this helps.

Tim please pay attention to problem that plates are not avaiable when Sky Demon is offline. Please try to turn off WFI and 3 G modem, then plot the new route. I'm sure that plates will not avaiable for new route and new airfields. Even you have already downloaded all plates to your devices.

Just a quick FYI - my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) picked up the new update today (2.7.2.32650). It works, but still has the same problem with the Plates menu being impossible to get out of, and some of the other pop-ups (eg TAFs) can cause it to freeze. Only solution I have found is to kill the app and restart. This is all in Planning mode - haven't tried Flight mode yet.
