Hi Steve, Thanks for your recommendations, I did give it a go and the app you recommended is very useful to confirm connectivity, using it all the time now. At the end of the day its a shame to have to disable a bunch other services just to get one going. As apps are added the services are coming back online (by choice I know) so I find myself doing a hard reboot before each flight (out of wifi coverage or wifi turned off) which gets it going.

What you described is either a problem with your iPad or with your external GPS receiver, if you have one.

Had SD for just over year, full subscription, having tried the 30 day trial in 2012 to Corsica (and back) Just superb Just before setting out on the 2013 flight (7th June to 15th June, around europe, PA28) I updated to version 2.7.0 on Ipad 2. All was great, planning the whole route, plates, airport info from the AIP's. you name it. So to get to the subject of freezes. Routing from Gdansk to Krakow with most of the leg complete, the aircraft symbol jumps abruptly to the left and logging stops. Restarting SD on the "Home Button" several times produced a tracking 180 degrees out. Rebooted Ipad and situation normal, so the last 40 miles no problem. Just as well, as the weather was in a grumpy mood  Later in the week I had several "freezes" and the only way to recover seems be to reboot the Ipad, sometimes twice or more. The freezing seems to occur in concentrated batches ( once I had five in short order) but once you achieve an Ipad reboot, things settle down. I do not recall there being a "lost satellite reception" warning. As this is the first time I have encountered this problem, I thought it might be just ver 2.7.0 but it looks not, from earlier posts. At the moment I am not sure if it is a SD or Ipad problem Since then, no repeat of the problem, but flying somewhat less hours at the moment. PS , I do operate a Garmin 296 just in case, but not in the same class as SD

Skydemon version (2.6.3) Full subscription on IPad mini. On our way to Aero Expo on Sunday, heading SE and just south (10 miles approx) of the Isle of Man, the Skydemon aircraft symbol stopped, turned red (it was yellow) and pointed north. A message to the effect Route ended (or lost or closed, can't quite remember) and another stated that it had stopped logging. I turned Skydemon off and back on - didn't help, I then turned the IPad off and back on again but still no luck. About 10 minutes later it started working again and did so without incident for the remaining 5 hours of flying that day . What was interesting - another Skydemon working on a colleague's IPad (not mini) had no problems. I talked to the Skydemon guys at the Expo who were very helpful. It was suggested that my IPad had temporarily lost the satellite signal and had difficulty regaining it as it would normally use a wireless signal to help the initial acquisition. I wondered if the very small distance in positioning/shading between my colleague's IPad (front RHS lap) and mine (rear LHS lap in C172) could make such a difference? Or does the IPad mini have an inferior built in sat nav system? Or, is it a Skydemon version problem (2.6.3). I know that I can add an external sat nav receiver to the IPad, assuming that the problem is sat signal related, would this addition improve performance? Appreciate any advice! Cheers, Redant I would like to find an answer to this post as I also use an Ipad mini with internal GPS, all the answers concern a different problem.

Have you at some point connected the Glo to either of the phones? It can only talk to one device at a time, so with two phones and your iPad, it is pot luck which one it would have connected to. If this is the case, there's no need to turn Bluetooth off on your phones, but you must remove the Glo from the list of connected devices on everything except your iPad.

I've been using SD (this story relates to the previous version) on the i pad mini with a Garmin Glo. All works fine, most of the time.
I had an issue where everything was connected, all the correct lights were on, but the Garmin would not talk to S.D. This had not been a problem on the ground. We were in the air at the time, so my buddy flew the aircraft while I switched everything off and back on again - standard practice it seems for all SNAFU tech! Still no joy, then I realised that we had both left our phones on, with the bluetooth activated. Disabled the bluetooth on the phones, and it immediately started working properly, and has not faltered since.
I'm sure somebody with a better tech knowledge than me could explain this one, but it did work, and leaving the bluetooth on, on the phones is, I would suggest, pretty common, and may be part of the problem related here, by others.

I didn't need to download the app you suggested but I did need to stop any app on my ipad trying to talk to the GPS. I did turn off all location services and then rebooted.Just to be clear - the app I suggested isn't part of the solution. It's just a very quick way of being 100% sure your GPS is talking to the iPad properly before you start rolling along the runway. If that red light is blinking once per second, you can be assured that SkyDemon will also work correctly.

Hi If you follow my suggestions, I can all but guarantee the problem will go away. Give it a whirl. The vital action is to make sure no system services try and access your location data before you have paired the GPS. Steve

Hi All, Just a quick note that I had similar issues today. Ipad mini with a Dual XGPS 150E and Skydemon 2.6.3 that is. Route was all set and hit Go flying on the taxi out and was not until I was in the air that I noticed that a pop up had appeared saying seeking GPS (or something to that effect). Continued with the flight just as Neils did and tried to get it back up and running. Shut down Sky Demon, shut down dual app, disconnected Bluetooth, and finally a full reboot of the Ipad set it straight. As you can imagine this is quite painful to have to do in flight when solo. This was only the the third time I have used Skydemon, the first two were 3 hour flights were it worked a treat navigating through France and the endless fields followed by a village then another village and yet another village that all become a blur after a while. It really is an amazing piece of kit for the price. Hopefully the tech's at Skydemon are reading these and can offer some concrete advice, will give stevelup's recommendation a go for the time being.

Your proposal worked a treat, I think as I have only tested it on the ground and stationary.

Your rationale for the problem is perfectly rational but is does make me wonder how I can stop the issue recurring.

Aside from this glitch sky demon is an amazing piece of kit which takes a lot of stress out of navigation but the problem reminded me to keep up to speed on the time honoured old fashioned navigation techniques involving charts, lines and eyes. Glad I was reminded in my home area where there are so many landmarks (like the Isle of Wight) its tricky to get truly lost.
