We've just posted a public beta of SkyDemon 3.5 on our Android page, which includes rainfall imagery. Please give it a try and let us know here how you get on.

The text is now only displayed if there is room. Perhaps you're using SkyDemon on a phone?
The slider definitely does not default to that date; are you loading a route with that date set as your takeoff time?

i'll plead guilty to both charges ....
Pesky app analytics, can't make any mistakes secretly anymore ;-)

Just messed about with the rain overlay and have a few comments :

- Agree w/ previous post about complexity of having rain switched on in both weather and layers. My first thought was to look for it in layers too, but I can understand the logic in putting it with the weather tab.

- Time scrubbing feature is awesome! Would love a time lapse loop option, as my display doesn't leave much room to visualize while scrubbing...

- The tab bar takes up 50% Off my screen as well (Sony Z3TC w/ 1080p screen) I'd make the font even smaller, but I can't. Note, I tried this on another tablet with a 4k display and SkyDemon looks gorgeous! (tab bar only takes up about 25% of screen and is still perfectly readable)

- My vote is for enabling rain during navigation. I typically have a 3g connection in flight, and for longer flights (2+ hrs) being able to get current weather without having to exit nav mode would be tremendous.

- I'm all for a timeout. If rain is more than e.g. 45-60 mins old, it should simply be switched off automatically and if a user tries to switch it back on, they must have an Internet connection to update it...

- Also agree with previous comments about opacity of rain being important. If opacity could be set at something like 50%, it would be really useful for in flight decision making (not navigation per se, rather situational awareness).

Being in SW Dev, I appreciate the changes and improvements you've made in the time I've been using the app. Thanks a bundle for your efforts and I hope it is financially rewarding.

I'd like to see the rain overlay during navigation as well. Flying mostly between 2,000 and 3,000 ft AGL I get an internet connection every 10-15 mins, on one of my last flights I received new metars in 6,000 ft AGL.

My suggestion: A time lapse loop (as already suggested by geohawk) with 15-20 mins looking into the future (prediction, like many weather apps already do) while in nav mode. Accompanied by a small label on the display showing time of last update. If last update is older than say 20-30 mins, label turns red.

I know, no information is better than wrong information, but if the information is marked as outdated and the loop is still running I may get an idea about how the precipitation has moved and developed.

A time-out is ok, but not the way geohawk describes it. If the rain layer is switched off due to time-out and only allowed to being switched on again when there's an internet connection, one would always have to have an eye on the display to see whether internet connection is established in order to switch on the rain layer again.

Regards

Eric

Please remember that not all of us have 3G/4G connectivity on our tablets.

No worries, I don't either, I use an external modem... (highly recommended for just these kinds of situations)

Great to be able to check weather, get updates from individuals I'll be meeting up with, or for handling last minute details on the way.

Sure takes a load of stress off being able to communicate and obtain auxiliary info while in flight.
