During the winter (and summer ??!!!!) where the weather is too bad to fly, I like to keep up my IMC skills by flying various routes and instrument approaches using FSX.
I can, currently, plug in my back-up Garmin 496 into FSX and the route and moving map comes up on the 496 whilst in sumulator mode.
Wouldn't it be a great tool if we could use the iPad SkyDemon plugged into FSX and allow hands on simulation via FSX?
Has anyone managed to achieve this FSX link?
Don't know weather to post here on in the sugesstins forum.
P.S - I am the worlds most un-educated person with respect to software, cables, patches and plug-ins (although I know the language), so a really easy fix (aka the garmin solution) would be great.
Thanks
Hugh

i have the SkyDemon software also on a second PC. With Fsuipc and GPSout i can see my FSX plane on the map of SkyDemon. I love it. But the iPad version/option would also be perfect. Will follow this topic.

Hi Rob,
I have Sky Demon on my laptop also. Bearing in mind that I know nothing about the various patches and software you mention, how easy is it to get my laptop version of Sky Demon showing my route being flown in FSX?
Still agree though, that an iPad connection to FSX would be best.

Have you installed FSUIPC ? there is a GPSout option. It can be done via a RS232 cable or via the network. Later on i will have a better look how i installed it.

Yep, I have installed FSUIPC and use it to drive my Garmin 496 with the GPSout option, but not too sure how to get FSX to drive the laptop Skydemon.

Just to say I got this working, although it was by trial and error and I possibly paid over the odds to do it (worth every penny though, Full blood FSX with Skydemon is just amazing*). I needed: FSUIPC (25 quid odd) WideFS (25 quid too and I'm not sure I actually needed this, but I was pulling my hair out till I brought it then everything seemed to just start working) VSPE (Free edition) Once these were installed, - In FSX Add-ON menu set FSUIPC as per the attachment - (Use GPSout setting in short) - Add the following to the WideFS WideClient.ini file: [GPSout] Port=COM11 Speed=9600 - Use VSPE 'pair' option from COM11 > COM12 - SkyDemon then sees the FSX GPS output on COM12. Something like that worked for me anyway! Ian * I have all the FSX trimmings, at least for my low hour PPL level I find it an invaluable training aid for both VFR and more recently IMC training.

Just to add, I'm using a separate monitor on the same machine with Skydemon for Windows. Connecting the Ipad version would be double amazing, but I think that would take work from Skydemon as you'd need a setting to get the GPS input from FSUIPC via the local network (I guess that's what WideFS does). Ian,
Are you running fsx on a desktop and skydemon on your laptop connected via a cable (if so what type of cable), or are you ruinning fsx and skydemon on the same machine but using a second monitor for skydemon?

Just on the same machine using a second monitor Hugh (I use a 42inch HD telly for FSX itself). The windows version of Skydemon is a little limited I guess, but it's still a great tool. Finding a way to use the SkyDemon Ipad version would be truly superb...

I'm using skydemon pc app on a portable via gpsout together with Prepar3D and it is working very nicely, but.... I would like to be able to use my iPad. Would also like to be able to read flightplans from Skydemon either by import or yet better directly. Kennet

It's a rather cobbled together chain of applications but it does seem to work OK. Please note that the most important/dealbreaker part of the setup was that my iPad is Jailbroken. I don't think there's any way to do it with a non-Jailbroken iPad. That said, here are the pieces of the puzzle:In broad strokes, we make the PC emulate a Bluetooth GPS module, and have the iPad connect to it. Your PC must have a working Bluetooth Adaptor. Most laptops would have it but I'm not sure about desktops (I run FSX on my Apple laptop) On the PC: 1. FSUIPC installed. The registered (or trial) version allows you to output FSX GPS data to a serial port. 2. Franson GPSgate. This lets you share a serial GPS receiver over Bluetooth. Again, available on a trial. 3. VSPE (Virtual Serial Port Emulator). Use this to create a virtual COM port to be used as a "Connector". FSUIPC will write to this port, and GPSgate will read from it. With this lot chained together, your PC is now essentially a bluetooth GPS module spitting out nice valid GPS data based on your FSX session. On the iPad: Even though your PC is now basically a generic GPS module, Apple in their infinite wisdom only allow you to connect to certain GPS modules like the Dual XGPS150 that I use for flight. However, you can get around this by Jailbreaking your iPad and installing BTstack GPS. This is a separate Bluetooth stack which allows you to connect to any GPS module not just the Apple approved ones. Once you have BTstack installed, your PC will appear in the list of discovered devices, When you click on it you'll see your FSX positional data and a map will be loaded. It's best to disable WiFi on the iPad at this point. The reason for this is the iOS Location Services (which SkyDemon uses) also uses WiFi Triangulation to improve the accuracy of your position. Works well in the Real World - but when WiFi triangulation says you're at home, and GPS says you're over the channel then things get a little confused! Once Wifi is off, Run SkyDemon and once you enter Navigation mode your position will come from FSX. Best of luck if you attempt this, let me know if you need any more tips!

Right, I've been tearing my hear out a bit on this one - I'm so close but lacking the cigar. FSUIPC - Check (Already had the paid version so I could fix some weirdness with my yoke). GPSGate - Check (You don't need the server version, just the free Windows client) VSPE - Check (Map the FSUIPC Com Port 11 to Create a Com 12 with the GPS Data outputting) Bluetooth Adapter - Check (£6 from Amazon) BTStack - Check (Jailbreaking IOS is so much nicer than it used to be - 60 seconds effort, all good). After a reboot of everything, BTStack on my Ipad (Mini, US Version with 3G) sees and updates the correct FSX GPS location. Bingo! But Skydemon still locks onto my real-world position, presumably because the internal GPS thinks it's more accurate then the Bluetooth provided location. Unfortunately I can't find a way to disable the internal GPS without turning off Location Services, at which point Skydemon complains and won't go into flight mode. I tried Wifi off and full Airplane mode, which was hopeful for a minute as Bluetooth seems to still be alive, however in that state Skydemon shows no GPS signal being received (even though BTStack still updates the location). I've spent hours Googling and trying various things to no avail. I'm so close and I *really* want this to work - I'm even tempted to try and get hold of a non 3G/GPS iPad, but that has to be a last resort. I don't suppose you have any suggestions Mr Cessna or anyone else?

So, I'm on the verge of giving up trying to run my 3G iPad with the fake Bluetooth GPS input from FSX. I was wondering, does anyone have this working on an Android tablet, or can advise how hard it would be. I'm thinking about buying something as low cost as possible specifically for virtual flying. Please, SkyDemon team
(Using the pc version now for fsx/p3d)
Make it possible to connect FSX/P3D to iPad SkyDemon.
LOVE your iPad app and have used it in several real flights, but...
Isn´t it possible to make it work for simulators like fsx and p3d?

OpusFSX now includes a GPS output option to interface with SkyDemon on a PC. Step One: Download and install the HW Group Virtual Serial Port - HW VSP3 software from the HW Group website www.HW-group.com. Create a desktop icon for the HW Virtual Serial Port. Run the VSP3 program, open the Settings tab and turn OFF all options except for, TCP Server Mode Connect to Device even if Virtual COM is closed Save your settings to the INI file using the button. Open the [v]Virtual Serial Port tab and specify your general parameters for the VSP. I have mine set up as follows, Port Name: COM7 IP Address: 127.1.1.0 Port: 23 Click on the Create COM button. The VSP Status will change to Creating.. then finally Created. The LAN Status will then go to Listen. Step Two: In the Opus FSXSERVER program's form click on the View Device Driver Links button to display the Device Driver Links on the form. Now Open the FSXSERVER program's Configure dialog, tick the Enable GPS Output option and specify the above IP address (127.1.1.0) and Port number (23) in the fields provided. Click OK to close the Configure dialog. A Device Driver Link should become coloured showing the GPS Simulation Networked TCP/IP Socket link, this link will turn green when it connects to the VSP. The VSP LAN Status should now change to Connected. Step Three: After running and loading the flight in FSX or Prepar3D you are now ready to run the SkyDemon package. You will now have to set up your SkyDemon package. Setup - > Device Connectivity Options ... I have a Garmin handheld device Port: COM7 OK Setup -> GPS Navigation Options ... General tab, GPS Harware, Port: COM7 Baud: 9600 (I have my COM7 mode set to 9600,N,8,1) OK You are now ready to click on the Start GPS option in the top RH corner of the SkyDemon screen. We will be looking to interface further in the future looking into accepting flight plans, route or waypoint changes etc. Cheryl http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi.htm

Have downloaded HW VSP3 software, installed it, and run it. I've set it up exactly as in your forum article. However, the 'Create COM' button never becomes active, it's greyed out so I can't create the virtual port. I checked the Advanced tab and my local machine IP and the port number are not the same as in your settings for COM7. I assume this is not the problem. Any suggestions? alderbrook

Great news - With the latest version of Skydemon it's now possible to use the new X-flight connection option to connect your Ipad running Skydemon to FSX.
Unfortunately I've not found a free way to do it, but the paid solution (Currently $19) works very well and doesn't need much setting up at all. The product required to do this is called FSXFlight from http://www.fsxflight.com and was designed to do exactly the same thing for Foreflight. It provides the same type of GPS feed for FSX that Xplane natively has. Using Skydemon on the Ipad while flying in the Sim is a very good experience and does add a whole new dimension on the reality front, as well as freeing up the second monitor to display plates. Thanks again Skydemon! Ian

Hi, I have the trial for skydemon 3.0.5 on the ipad and downloaded the free FlightSimGPS. After starting FS2004 I start the skydemon on the ipad and set in the connectivity setting the X-plane and skydemon waits for the location data. Then I start the GPS program and it connects to FS2004 but the same time skydemon crashes and closes down.

I did get this to work immediately, but the data going to SD seems to have lots of direction changes/spikes so that the experience is not very smooth - ie, the SD track changes direction often and jumps around a lot. Anyone else have this, or know how to smooth the data going to SD? I seem to lose connection intermittently too.
Thanks

We've seen a few crash logs from people trying to do this, which indicate that your simulator is sending out a garbage GPS location. We've added protection against this for future versions so it will not crash in future, but perhaps ensure that your simulator is sending out a sensible position within a SkyDemon-charted country?

As soon as I go into connectivity and select X-plane, the app crashes. How/where do I extract a crashlog for someone to review ? Thanks Tim Opdencamp new user :-)

This is probably a known problem whereby the simulator sends nonsense data, which crashes the current public version of SkyDemon. The forthcoming update detects and ignores the specific nonsense data, so it would probably be worth waiting for that.

I'm running the iPad SD version with FS2002 & 2004 without any issues and find this an excellent training aid.
Using FSUIPC.DLL with the FlightSimGPS links seamlessly with the iPad X-Plane Connectivity Option and the whole setup is FREE!!!!

Hi all, I put an installer for a small program (Fsx2Skydemon) that receives data from FSX, and forwards it to SkyDemon using the x-plane protocol (supported by newer versions of Skydemon). Hi there - I set this up and can see that the app is receiving data from FSX, and 'transmitting to SD' but SD never picks it up. I've set the IP address to the one on the wifi connection on my iPad - but not sure where you get info on the ports - could this be the problem?
Kind regards

Hi all,
I'm not sure about making it work with FS9. I don't even have a copy to test with. I'm sure the SimConnect dll will be different for FS9. Sorry.
If you are receiving & transmitting data to Skydemon, then it is probably an IP address or port problem. SD receives on port 49002. Set that in 'OutPort', and set 'LocalPort' to something else
You can get the iPad's IP address from Settings/WiFi. Select The 'i' for the connected network shows the IP address. Enter this into 'OutAddr' in settings. Assuming your iPad is on the same network as your Flight Sim PC, it ought to work. Bear in mind that Fsx2Skydemon only sends data when the aircraft is in motion. If its paused or parked, you will get no data. Note that the IP address could change from session to session.
I have no idea why the updates would be jerky and changing direction. The track will reset if there is a large jump in position (e.g. you load a new scenario). The corresponds to about Mach 1, so should not be a problem. Does the Data LED flash regularly, or is it erratic?
Cheers
Colin

Hi Roland, I'm not sure I have a solution. I can't quite work out what has gone wrong. Try this link to an updated version here. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=62A857FB93775AA!11163&authkey=!AP9HtA7QkEJbH1I&ithint=file%2czipI think it may be looking for the .Net framework. You will need .Net 4. If it is not on your computer already, this installer should hopefully set it up for you. Try it & please let me know how it goes. Colin

Hi Colin, installation worked fine now. I did the setup for linking my Android Samsung Galaxy Note. I started SkyDemon on the tablet. On my FSX-PC the Data indicator is flashing. So is the Tx indicator. But no indication on the tablet. I've opened up ports 49001 and 49002 on my router for the ip-adress of the tablet. No change. Ping for the tablet works fine. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? One more note: SkyDemon is simply closed when FSX2Skydemon is sending data. Appreciate your help very much.

I'd also be grateful for help on this Colin.
Your program hooks up with FSX and transmits data but I can't get the green 'waiting for location bar' to disappear on Skydemon on the ipad. I've set the 'out' address as the ip address of the ipad and ticked all the boxes on your program. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

I also had it hang at Waiting for Location Data. In fact Skydemon had crashed already. To everybody having problems with this, after spending some time diagnosing the problem and thinking about it I could troubleshoot mine, hope it also helps you! My guess is you are from a country where the decimal separator is a coma (,) and not a dot (.) as in 10 Euros, 50 cents is 10,50. This wrong decimal separator is also used when the coordinates are sent to the iPad which causes SkyDemon to crash. (It seems). So how do you fix it:
You can change this setting in windows for this open the Control Panel (Systemsteuerung in Deutsch): Open it and change the view to small icons (1) then open the Region settings (2). Look for the icon and not the text if your Windows Version is localized to a different language. In the Region Settings open the [Additonal Settings] Change the "Decimal symbol" to . instead of , To the developer: You should be able to fix it by supplying the default US Locale explicitly in the constructor for your Number Format (or whatever that is called in .Net, I am doing mostly Java these days) or use that instead of a simple ToString. And thanks for the great tool! Very helpful and works a charm, after figuring this out.
Happy new year and kind regards Fabian

I had exactly the described problem and could solve it with the hint of fabian :-))
I would be delighted if the author could bring in a further setting in FSX2Skydemon in which the user can choose the decimal point / decimal komma setting in order to arrange the GPS Data to be sent in the region's needed setting.
If i set the region setting manually correctly - the program runs very well !! Kind regards

Hi everybody, Sorry, I've been off the radar for a while. I had no idea people were using Fsx2Skydemon! I have posted a new version to my OneDrive at https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=62A857FB93775AA!30579&authkey=!AHrS2FtIdbDIlZw&ithint=file%2czipThis version corrects the problem that European users have been experiencing with European number formats, and does away with the need to change your computer's regional settings to get it to work. I have also updated the documentation to try to help users that have had trouble connecting to Skydemon Thanks to Wolfram & Johan for their feedback. All the best Colin

All the best Colin Hi Colin, first of all I´d like to pay maximum respect to your work providing your free (!) FSX2SkyDemon Software!! Wow, what a joy to work with! Since about one week I use SkyDemon on my iPad for real flight navigation. I tried several things while airborne to refine settings on SD. With your fine piece of software it ist possible to do this at home with FSX. "by accident" I fell into this thread "connecting FSX to iPad" - I never thought about this before! So I thought: try it! Working through this thread I found your software, cuevisions post (later on) gave me trust a) to install and b) to try this connection between FSX and SD. From the first second on it worked like a charm!!! Love it! It gives the chance to explore the behavior of Sky Demon under "real" flight conditions and it gives the possibility to fine-tune the settings for warnings and so on in Skydemon. What a great idea! What a fine, shiny piece of software Colin made and of course tnx to the sky demon team to provide the interface. Thanks Colin for "acting instead of chattering" and everybody here who helped and spent time developing the interface FSX2SD kind regards, Renzo PS: ASUS laptop, WIN 8.1, FSX PSS: I don´t know where you´re from but if you show up to my area (south germany) drop me a line and we go flying - if you like!

Hi, I used to be able to connect my Skydemon with Fsx2Skydemon and my Ipad to Prepar3d. At first it did not work, but after changing the , to . it worked just fine. I also tried the new version of FSX2SKY and even FSXFlight....
For a reason I don´t know, my Ipad does not connect anymore and wont show the position. I spend at least 20 houers trying to fix it, but it dosen´t work. Because I can see that FSX2Skydemon is sending data on the File-Transfer-Monitor, I think there is a problem with the Ipad or Skydemon.
Is there a program that shows the incoming signal in textform, so I could check if the Ipad is receving data and maybe Skydemon can´t read it? Some kind of a log? One last option would be to resign from skydemon on the Ipad an sign inn again... I didn´t try by now.
Prepar3d is just perfect to pratice Skydemon, it´s a pity that I cant fix it...
Happy Landings

I didn't think that you needed to change the region on your PC to send data to your iPad any more with version 1.2.1. What country are you living in? I understand that the latest version works ok with European & UK number formats. If the iPad is not receiving data, its a fair bet that it is the IP address setup. Sorry, I can't help you there any more than I have put in the help document. Everybody's network is different. Bear in mind that the IP address of your iPad could change without warning, so its always worth checking it again. Colin

Thank you for your advice. It really is strange, I can ping the iPad it without problems and the IP address are correct. The firewalls are offand I am using the newest version of fsx2skydemon. I am located in Germany. The last option would be to completely remove Norton Internet security and check if it works. Maybe it has something to do with opening the ports. But honestly that seems to be too complicated for me, I guess you would have to IT expert for that.

Yes, strange. I know somebody in Germany is using the latest version of Fsx2Skydemon (1.2.1) without problem. He actually alerted me to the European number format issue which I corrected. Can I ask you to check your settings again as per page 8 of the help file. Especially ensure that Sockforward is checked, OutAddr is set to the same IP address as the iPad you pinged and UpdateThreshold is set to 0.
I am sure this is nothing to do with Skydemon itself (I have found it to be very robust). I am away this weekend, and will take a look for problems when I return.
Sorry you are having problems.

This topic is a bit stale by now, and have not done a comprehensive forum search to avoid redundancy, so forgive me if this is old news: I finally found a way to get SkyDemon connected to FSX GPS requiring no additional software other than FSUIPC - no virtual port emulation, no GPSgate (this is for Android systems though, I don't bother with Apple). (courtesy of BaobobMiller of the simflight.com forums: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/75481-sending-gps-data-to-android-apps-bluetooth/ ) - I'm quoting him: ------------------ 8< --------------------------------------- 8< -------------------
GPSOut… over bluetooth Windows 7 64 bit Perhaps I’m just way behind in the common knowledge department, but I recently went looking for “the way” to send my FSX gps data to my Android tablet over Bluetooth so that I could use the full functionality of apps like Garmin pilot, FltPlan.com, and others and was surprised at the number of posts making reference to the fact that it could be done but lacking in the information about how to actually do it. So I am posting this as an example for anyone who is in the same situation I found myself in. I’m not going to wordy by getting into things like how to install a Bluetooth adapter and how to pair your tablet with the PC. If anyone has questions about thinks like that that they cannot find answers to on Google, feel free to shoot me an email or a PM and I’ll do my best to help out. Let’s assume that you already have your tablet paired with the computer and start there… PC Portion: - Open “Bluetooth Settings” (Right click on the Bluetooth icon in your system tray and choose “Open Settings”
- Click on the “COM Ports” tab and if there are no incoming com ports listed, click add.
- Make sure that “Incoming” is chosen (there are only two choices) and click ok.
- Make note of the incoming COM port number that has been added to the list. (COM3 for example) and click “OK”
- Run FSX, start a flight, and open the FSUIPC interface (AutoSave and GPSout tab) and Enable GPSout
- Choose the COM port you made a note of from the drop down list (but do not check the box for “Send data via WideFS” as this is an either of function and we want the data sent via the COM port)
- Leave the port speed and interval timing alone for now (you will change it ONLY if you need to later)
- For testing purposes check all of the boxes at the bottom of the section and click ok (RMA, RMC ,VTG, etc. After you know which ones are needed by the app you want to use on the tablet you will disable the ones that are not needed)
Tablet Portion: - Enable “Allow Mock Locations” in the “Developer” section if the settings menu
- Install “Bluetooth GPS” on tablet (there are others that I have tested as well but it works and it’s free… for now at least)
- Open Bluetooth GPS and tell it to connect to your PC. (there is a drop down list of paired devices at the top.
- As long as you left your FSX flight running you should see GPS data in the boxes on the main screen of Bluetooth GPS.
- If the connection fails before going back through all the settings you just made try the alternative connection method in the “Bluetooth GPS” settings.
- Leave Bluetooth GPS running and open whatever app you want to use (FltPlan.com for example) and Bluetooth GPS will continue to feed the GPS data from your FSX to the tablet tricking most applications into thinking it’s a “real” gps connected via bluetooth.
Don’t forget to research which sentences (RMA, RMC, etc. you actually need and disable the rest) Continue fiddling and tweaking in general until you get what you are after. Note: Many people, myself included, have trouble with windows randomly assigning a different COM port to the Bluetooth every time windows is restarted. I have not looked for a way to “reserve” a COM port yet and knowing Microsoft… there may not be one. If anyone does know of a work around please let me know and I’ll edit it into this post. May your Sim flights be plagued with bad weather, damaged landing gear, low oil pressure, and engine failure… and may your real flights endure none of the like. Bao

Folks, can anybody help me? Just installed fsx2skydemon from last link. Once FSX starts fsx2skydemon shows green which means it's connected to FSX however later on while flying ther's no data transmited from FSX to fsx2skydemon (no position in right top corner, no airplane on the chart, data button is not flashing) hence can't even try to connect it to SD on mini IPad (waiting for location is permanent). Few times checked and all settings of fsx2skydemon are "as per book". Anybody knows what problem may I experience? Any settings in FSX? Should I install something else besides fsx2skydemon? I'd appreciate an assistance since it seems very usefule for training. All the best

I know this thread is inactive for months, but a new plugin for FSx and Prepar3D is available from Flight1 software : http://www.flight1tech.com/Products/SimulationUtilities/ForeFlightPlug-in.aspxIt's free, just need a email to registered. It's a plug-in, so no need to launch something in parallel of FSx/P3D. No need to enter IP adress or anything else according that the plugin broadcast information on your Wi-Fi network. Just need to install and connect your iPad Skydemon and FSx/P3D on the same Wi-Fi network.

Hello, Pilots and Programmers I tried to install the FSX2SkyDemon Software (latest version). All is configured as described in the helpfile. The green connection dot on the FSX2SkyDemon monitor is active, but there is no Data or Tx flashing. Of course, the sim aircraft is moving. As I can see, Martin Christoph has the same problem. I hope, anybody has an idea. I use Win 7, .Net Framework 4 or higher is installed I have FSX running

You need to have FSUIPC installed (you don't need the registered version) . In Skydemon make sure you select "X-Plane" after selecting "Go Flying". If you don't see the entry, you need to activate it under Settings-ThirdPartyDevices-Simlulator-Xplane.

Nothing happens, but I can`t find additional menues after installing FSUIPC, Only a new Add-ons menue, here can I start logging events and I can see the output on a terminal window, but I can't find any gpsout items.

Hi Winfried,
there is no specific Add-On menu for the Plug-In, it works silently.
Try starting FSX with Admin Rights and make sure that the PC and the device running Skydemon are actually connected to the same network. Maybe the GPS broadcast is blocked by your firewall - try deactivating it temporarily.

Hi Jan, many thanks for your quick reply. I will check it next week. For the time beeing I have to prepare some lessons in radio navigation for my students. But let’s talk about the menue. Since I have installed the FSUIPC, there is a additional item in the FSX menue bar, called “add ons” It appears after 30seconds. WhenI click on this item iI can see the item FSUIPC. When I click on that, there iis a menue with logging parameters and I can see the logged parameters in a terminal window, if I activate this.. So, I decide to make a new installation of the FSX, I have all the original CD’s.. Maybe that there is a problem with simconnect. The next step will be to switch off the firewall and/or the AVantivir software.. I will report here what happend then.. BR and a nice weekend, Winni (Please excuse my bad english, I have only language level 4)

I see some of you are still struggling. Well it was some time ago I was trying my best too, it took me weeks if not months and finally I gave up. Tried everything, all kind of settings including FSUIPC and so on. Recently I have decided to try again on the same machine but before it happened I had changed system from Win 8 to Win 7. Guess what. Once fsxtoskydemon was installed within seconds got connected and AC position was displayed on IPad!!! Just IPad IP to be properly set. No FSUIPC no any other soft. Just fresh Win 7, rough (no any addons) FSX steam and fsxtoskydemon. Than I did it on anther machine, same - changing sys from Win 8 to Win 7 first. Same smooth and successful installation. I wasted a lot of time but it looks like the problem was in op system or it's settings I never have discovered.. Good luck everybody and don't give up!!! It's cool to practice on sim having more feelings like it was real world.

I think, I give up, sorry, I have no other ideas I suggest that you check the settings of fsx2skydemon. In particular check the IP address being used. Then check the WIFI settings on your Ipad to check its IP address. If the 2 IP addresses don't match you must change the IP address in the FSX2Skydemon program, then exit fsx2skydemon and re-start the program. Your ipad may well get a different IP address each time it re-connects to your wifi network (assuming dynamic IP address allocation is used) so you may have to repeat the re-setting of the fsx2skydemon ip address each time you wish to link FSX to your ipad.

Hi George, thank you for the quick response. But I have checked all this. I think the failure is the missing communication between FSX and FSX2skydemon and not between FSX2skydemon and the Ipad. Its a big questionmark for me.

Hello Winfried,
if you use the foreflight plugin, do not start fsx2skydemon before. The foreflight plug-in broadcasts on UDP Port 49002. Try to explicitly allow connections on this port by modifying your Firewall settings under "Outbound Rules".
What network router are you using?

Today I tried a "wired" connection between FSX on the desktop and Skydemon on the laptop. In the FSUIPC menue I checked GPSout via Com1 and this setup worked fine. So I´m sure that FSX communicates with FSUIPC. But on the other hand, fsx2skydemon isn't working. So, for the time being I can use the "wired " setup.

I was going to install FSX2SkyDemon but really couldn't find it with a Google search. The 2 links in this thread also gave me no confidence that I would be installing the latest version. Also, I was concerned about the trouble some users have had, again detailed in this thread. I really didn't want to spend my time troubleshooting, which has been my experience so far with flight sims. I just wanted to fly.
So instead I went for the free Flight1 ForeFlight plug-in referred to earlier in this thread as working with SD. Had no trouble finding it and no trouble installing it. Came with clear instructions which gave me some confidence.
And bingo! Worked first time. Loaded up my usual aircraft and airfield in FSX and immediately SD came on line with me positioned on the runway. Took off and flew around. It was amazing to see SD working flawlessly on my iPad, just as in my real world aircraft!
My setup: Windows 10 64 FSX Steam iPad mini running SD - set SD to 'X-Plane' mode (Go Flying -> Connect to X-Plane)
The advantage of the ForeFlight plug-in against what I've read about fsx2skydemon is that there's no additional user intervention. That is, you don't have to start the program separately to FSX. And you don't have to tell it the IP address of your iPad. Just make sure that your computer and the iPad are on the same network. It just loads when you run FSX. (They say it also works in P3D).
SkyDemon is a great program which I've used in the air for many years. It's evolved into quite a feature rich program but I don't think the air is the best place to learn all its possibilities. OK, it's got a simulator mode, but running alongside a flight sim package can't be beaten. On this basis I do wonder why SD has never seen the point of developing their own branded plug-in, if only as a teaching tool. For me it's a no brainer.
I hope that others trying to get SD to run with their flight sim will find this useful.

Forget my previous post...
When I came back to FSX a few days ago it wouldn't load. I had to disable the ForeFlight plug-in. So knock that one on the head.
I took a look at FSXFlight that's mentioned in page 3 of this thread. It's payware but with a money back guarantee. Bought it, installed it (after installing FSUIPC first).
Worked first time. But so did the other one.
Rebooted computer several times and on each occasion it worked. So I am now hopeful that this will be a more robust solution for FSX-SD cooperation. Happy to pay for something that works with no trouble.
But the best thing was finding FSUIPC and finding out what it can do. However, my point about SD having their own branded plug-in still stands....

Does anyone have experience to connect SD to Microsoft Fight Simulator running in Windows 10 ? Is it possible or does it only work with SFX?

+xDoes anyone have experience to connect SD to Microsoft Fight Simulator running in Windows 10 ? Is it possible or does it only work with SFX? I just got it set up in two minutes on Windows 10 P3D 4.2. Just installed it, set ip address for the ipad and "Go flying" after having launched P3D. Haven't tried it in FSX SE yet. Do you mean you have an older version than FSX? Seems like most people are running this on FSX just fine here.

I got this set up pretty straightforwardly today with FSX SE running on a PC and sky demon on a windows laptop (both running Windows 10). In case this is useful for others and to save reading back through the whole thread... Steps which worked for me: Plain installation of FSX SE on PC. I have some add ons (e.g. ASWeather) which use the MS sim connect which came with, but no special other software installled (specifically no FSUIPC). Download fsx2skydemon (see below for link) Install fsx2skydemon and fire it up. Set the IP address of my laptop in settings. Quit and restart. Fire up FSX and start free flight. At this point in fsx2skydemon I see the solid, green FSX light and flashing data and tx light, and my position is shown on the included map. Fire up Skydemon on my laptop, go flying, select “Connect to X-Plane”. Now my position is shown and updated in Skydemon. Everything looks good. I haven’t tried on iPad yet. Hi, I use the XMAPSY tool for interfacing with the FSX or P3D. Works well and there is also a demo version of it (xmapsy.com). greetings Marco

If it helps, I did the setup of FSX:SE to SkyDemon last year - I tried quite a few of the ‘free’ tools and found FSX unstable - even with complete uninstalls and reinstall. I had originally purchased Mindstars GNS 430 for use within A2A’s 180 and noticed Mindstar did a plug-in for external devices - it’s payware but been absolutely flawless and just works! http://www.mindstaraviation.com/Product_GPSVR.htmlIt states it’s for Foreflight, but works brilliantly. That’s on Windows 10 v1803 and originally v1709! Thanks Rob

Hi Achim, Yes, Xmapsy V3 can show AI traffic (and that includes multiplayer traffic, I think) in Skydemon. More information is available at https://xmapsy.com. You have to use the ADS-B / GDL-90 mode of XMapsy here. That works great, at least for me. Marco
