Hi,

I’ve heard SD HQ is broadcasting ADS weather as a try-out. Should I be able to get this from a Garmin ADS-B IN weather capable transponder ?

They have a transmitter set up.

I believe that any UAT receiver will work, but not ADS-B since the weather messages only exist in the UAT protocol.

Any device that receives and displays UAT weather should receive the UAT weather currently being broadcast from SkyDemon HQ.

‌The good news is I got a signal from the station and I received some stuff from it. The bad news is none of what I received, I could display: SD doesn’t yet support the GTX345 so I had to try with Garmin Pilot and Foreflight, which didn’t display any weather. My GTN (connected to the GTX) was under the impression that it was receiving METARs but didn’t display any...

Thanks for giving it a go, it might be worth asking your Garmin contact to comment on this. We are broadcasting TAF and METAR in just the same way they are broadcast in the states, but we don't know about the internals of Garmin software and whether (for example) it's tied to only processing bulletins for the states. We did verify our radar broadcast in both Garmin Pilot and Foreflight when we first started broadcasting.
