First 'play' with SkyDemon! (Christmas present) It's quite a step up for me from a Chinagraph, Quarter Mill Topo, Ruler, Douglas Protractor, Piece of String, a Whizz Wheel and Mark1 Eyeball. It looks pretty good so far. Is it possible to display/superimpose the tracks entered on the SkyDemon charts onto the satellite view? I couldn't find a way of doing this. Thanks for any help or ideas

Hi David,
If you mean routes when saying tracks, no, there's no way of seeing them on the satellite view in Skydemon.

Hello Eric, Thank you very much for taking the trouble to reply to my post. I think that what I was querying would be a perfect upgrade to the SkyDemon app. To be able to superimpose the planned route onto the satellite view would be a huge boon, enabling one to examine features along the route in closer detail, eg, landmarks, lakes, reservoirs, motorways, railway lines and junctions, industrial estates and other geographical features..or would that make life too easy? Do you know if these posts are read by the proprietors/developers at SkyDemon? Just an idea. Thanks again for your input. Kind regards. David Henderson

David FYI these forums are monitored by Tim Dawson, managing director and chief software architect at SD, and others.

We will of course take this suggestion into consideration. We considered doing this at the outset, but decided to postpone it to verify that a significant number of users want it, and can explain the benefit. Our worry is that once we added the track, people would want obstacles, airspace, and eventually everything else. The goal of satellite view is to act as a reference and help to accurately position user waypoints compared to ground features; it isn't supposed to be a replacement for the main chart.

I think it is a good idea. Anyway, sometimes I just save the route in a GPX format and open it on google earth ...

Thanks, Guille, And thanks for the suggestion. I'm a Chinagraph and half/quarter mill topo man, I'm afraid, so this is all pretty new to me! Regards David. (Thanks for other replies, too)

Hello,
I definitely think that having the route on satellite map helps to prepare the flight as you can go through your route and see on the salellite map what you will see when you will be flying. This is in my opinion of great help for a VFR flight :-) Another thing I miss in the preparation of flights is the possibility to draw radials from navigation beacons when planning a route. This would allow me to define my routes where I can get help from the beacons.

Sky Painter (1/8/2016) You could always use the Track Waypoint function to give you a continuously updated QDM to the chosen beacon. Hello, This is correct for when flying. The purpose of my suggestion is to aid when planning. For example to help define a turning point at the intersection of two VOR radials or to have a leg which is on a VOR radial. Br, Jf
