difference using PilotAware versus GDL90 as the source does?

m Group: Forum Members Posts: 158, Visits: 1	What does Skydemon do differently using PilotAware versus GDL90 as the Navigation source? I have PilotAware setup as a wifi. I've noticed I can get SD to work either using the PaW option or GDL90. Is there a loss of functionality if choosing one or the other? The reason for the question is that I also have an ADL Weather unit which can transmit weather using GDL. So if i select GDL as the nav source in SD will I loose anything from the PaW capabilities?

p Group: Forum Members Posts: 323, Visits: 388	Pilotaware is a proprietary private product, such as Flarm, and GDL90 is a protocol originally published by Garmin. Apples and Oranges? You can let Flarm or Pilotaware send via GDL90 without some special traffic features, if you need more compatibility or function beyond payed subscription (at least at Flarm).

AFAIK PaW doesnt transmit data to SD over a proprietary format - again that's something the SD forum should be able to confirm?

So SD have written code to process that format? My understanding from the PaW team is that it broadcasts GDL and Flarm - for the purposes of display on navigation devices. The p3i is broadcast for other paw devices to receive.
