Hi folks,

since my last flight about two weeks ago my Samsung Tablet S9 with Anroid 16 can’t get any location data from the built in GPS. My backup Samsung phone works correct.
At home the same problem occurs with an older Samsung Tablet S3 running Android 9. We use both tablets without any issues for years. All other GPS based apps like Google Maps or Windy are working correct. When I tap on the location button on the bottom right corner the GPS sign in the status bar on the top right corner appears for a few seconds followed by the message "Your location cannot be obtained at this time"
I’ve already tried restarting the tablets, using older SkyDemon versions, checking app permissions and settings and so on without any sucess.
The problem only occurs on the tablets, our Samsung smartphones SkyDemon retrieves the location data. All devices use the same permissions and settings!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Greetings
Bernd

I had a similar issue on a previous tablet. The solution was to check the location settings and ensure they were set to high accuracy.

AI Overview
To fix GPS issues in Android settings, ensure Location is enabled in Settings > Location and set to "High Accuracy". Turn Location off and on again, restart the device, and verify app-specific permissions are allowed. Update your software and, if necessary, enable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth scanning to improve accuracy.

Key Troubleshooting Steps:
Toggle Location: Go to Settings > Location and toggle it off, then back on.
Check Accuracy Mode: Under Settings > Location, ensure it is set to "High Accuracy" to use GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks.
Check App Permissions: Go to Settings > Location > App Permissions to ensure your specific app (e.g., Maps) has access.
Restart and Update: Restart your phone to clear temporary bugs. Check for system updates under Settings > Software update.
Toggle Google Location Accuracy: Turn on "Google Location Accuracy" in the location settings.

If these steps do not work, it is possible your phone has a hardware issue with the GPS receiver.

Thank you.
Done without success.
Both Samsung tablets with the same issue and all other GPS based apps are working proper.

Just for information, it seems to be a problem with Samsung:

Hi,

I have the exact same problem with my Samsun Tab A9.
Wiping the cache didn't fix it (neither did reinstalling Skydemon).
We'll probably have to wait for a fix from Samsung...

FYI, Skydemon finds more than enough satellites, but fails to connect to any ("Waiting for Location Data / 0 out of 38 satellites").
If anyone has a fix, please share.

An interesting reply from Samsung, basically saying it's up to the third party app developers to adapt.
@Skydemon team, will you be releasing an update pertaining to this issue?

Here's Samsung's reply:
"I understand your disappointment and I'm sorry for any inconvenience this situation may cause, but I can confirm that Samsung isn't the one who needs to intervene. From our side, the device is fully compliant, as it works in all its parts and with the default applications.

The fact that this issue occurs across several apps of the same category suggests that there is something specific preventing those apps from operating as expected. The update likely introduced changes to the operating system that the applications now need to adapt to, in order to function properly. Therefore, I can confirm that, in these cases, the developers of the individual apps must release an update compatible with the new system specifications."

My Samsung Tab A9 is working SD fine in the UK although it does say 'nil satellites found'. Accuracy using GPS Test was around 13mtrs.

I made sure to disconnect any wifi and data first so it's certainly using GPS.

Same issue here with a Samsung ActiveTab 3. Other apps work fine (e.g. windy), so I'm inclined to believe this is an issue with SkyDemon?

I think Windy uses your internet IP address to locate you rather using GPS so you're not going to get a comparison that way.
