I recently flew into Le-Touquet whilst their ATC was closed.   I was reminded by the FIS just prior to landing to make sure I closed my flight plan and attempted this using the general French phone number immediately after landing.  I got no reply from the number.

Immediately distracted by my passengers and probably because closing flight plans isn't normally something I have other think about.  It was 10 minutes later when I was asked how I'd closed my flight plan by another English pilot, also having trouble with the french phone number, I remembered I'd still not done it!   Yet another English pilot then suggested I could use SD (this was new to me) or call one of the lesser known regional numbers for flight plan closure.

I decided to use SD and then check (big fine for unnecessary S&R callout in France) with one of the regional numbers to see if the SD system had worked.  It had, the French ATC confirmed my FP had been closed.

How easy would it be for SD to ask you if you would like to close your flight plan when perhaps you log "On Blocks" at the end of a flight, if SD can see you have a flight plan open?  It would take some of the human error / post landing ability to forget out of the situation.

It already does. When you land, after an international flight, you get a big banner on screen saying something like "Welcome to France. Don't forget to close your flightplan."

Thanks Tim, if a little embarrassing I didn't notice it.

Looking back at the cockpit GoPro footage of the landing above, I don't seem to have been presented with any sort of message as you suggest Tim.  Are you suggesting something like a Controlled Airspace or Danger Area warning that sits in the middle of the screen?

After landing I tapped on the sky demon logo (top LH corner) and then went straight to stop navigating.  Sometimes I "on blocks" / " engine off" and then go to "stop navigating".  But normally the on blocks, engine off is pretty much simultaneous, so I just "stop navigating".

Does the process of stopping navigating prevent the message you refer to?  I might change my routine if it does.

The message is triggered when logging stops. If SkyDemon has started your log automatically on takeoff, as it does for many people, it'll therefore appear on landing. If you've started logging manually then it should appear when you then stop logging manually. If you just go straight for Stop Navigating you'd probably never see it, because such banners only appear in navigation mode.
