Hi everybody,

It says in the SkyDemon Mobile Documentation ('Planing a Route' section) that "TIP: You can also enter a raw lat/lon position in standard degrees, minutes and seconds or degrees and decimal minutes format". I am however unable to figure out how to do this. No matter what I type into the 'FIND WAYPOINT' text field, SD Mobile just does not respond to it and I cannot find any other place where to enter position coordinates directly. Is this functionality disabled in SD Mobile version 2.1.1 which I am currently using, or am I doing something wrong? If it is enabled, how and where exactly does one enter the raw waypoint coordinates?

This is an important feature for helicopter pilots, as we obviously can land just about anywhere and so quite often raw position coordinates of a landing site is all we have.

Regards

Ivan

Hi Ivan, I'm afraid that functionality may actually not be present in the version you're using. The documentation is out of date and we will correct it as soon as possible.

Please note that it's possible (and easy) to create user waypoints for your landing sites in SkyDemon Plan/Web and then select these waypoints in SkyDemon Mobile if you need to plan a route directly on the device. We will endeavour to restore the ability to enter raw lat/lon coordinates in the waypoint finder dialog in the future.

I would like to request that instead of the option to look at a point in Google Maps you change this to Google Earth. The reason is that in Google Earth the lat long is automatically shown. So then you can:

  1. Create a waypoint in approximately the right place.
  2. Right click on it to bring Google Earth (in future hopefully!!)
  3. Locate exact site.
  4. Note down the correct lat/long
  5. Go back to SD and edit the approx waypoint to the exact lat/long

Cheers

If you register for a google account and you log-in, in google maps you may add the "LatLng Tool Tip" plugin in the options->MapsLabs menu.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the answer. I did realize that one can create a waypoint on the desktop or online and then transfer it to SD Mobile, which is fine when I am preparing a flight plan at home, but it is rather inconvenient and many times outright impossible when away, as I usually carry only an iPad with me (I do most of the flight planning directly in the SD Mobile). I shall therefore wait (im)patiently for you to restore this feature in SD Mobile 

Thanks again.

Regards,

Ivan

I can confirm that we've re-added the ability to type in lat/lon positions in the waypoint finder window and this will appear in the next beta release (which might be today).

I don't think we'll be changing the view in google maps to view in google earth, because not everybody has google earth.
