When visualising instruments plates for a given airfield, the filtering options are not retained between different document viewings, i.e., they reset back to ALL after closing a plate. It would be preferable that the filter selection be conserved while opening/closing plates (e.g., viewing multiple plates for APP+R08 only).

Thanks for keeping SD such an amazing app!

Sorry, I do not understand this query. My only understanding of filtering options in SkyDemon related to plates are saved, so please could you further illustrate this problem with the steps to take, and the behaviour you think isn't ideal? That will help us look into it. Thanks!

Hi Tim,

I can't seem to upload screenshots (upload process hangs forever). Here is a brief description on an iPad iOS 14.1:
  • Make sure the option "Show IFR Features" is ON
  • In planning mode, select an airfield (e.g., Farnborough) and open the Airfields tab
  • Go to Instrument Plates
  • By default, the filtering of plates is on ALL
  • Select DEP+R24
  • Select any plate to view (e.g., RNAV1 HAZEL) in full screen (not as a geo-referenced plate on the map)
  • Close the viewer with "Done"
  • The filter is back to ALL
The problem is similar but slightly different in flight mode (tested via the Simulation Mode). In this case, the default filter is APP+ALL and the app will revert to it after viewing any plate. Closing and opening the Airfields tab also resets the filter.

In both modes, it would be preferable to keep the filter to its last selection (i.e., DEP+R24) as one has to view multiple plates before being fully briefed on a given approach. Even more so in-flight: it would be much more convenient to always come back to the last selection to easily look at the plate again. It would also make the whole behavior more consistent: re-opening the tab in flight mode already brings the user to the last screen (which is a great feature). Keeping the filter selection would be a logical continuation of that behavior.

Hope this makes it clearer and helps.
Thanks a lot for your consideration!
JB

Oh and one more thing in flight mode: when opening the tab and browsing to the airfield for the first time, the app could detect whether the airfield is a departure or arrival one and automatically pre-select the APP/DEP filter accordingly. One less click for the user.

Thanks, that's great feedback. We will save the selected runway and flight phase between viewing documents, starting with the next release.

Your point is taken about the ARR/DEP selection being automatic. I believe we actually do this already; if you're on the ground at an airfield you should see DEP selected if you go to view its plates. That method is used in preference to looking at any planned route to try to ascertain it.
