Hello John. Although it's fairly easy to save two different routes, one with a crossing and one with a diversion, most people simply take advantage of the ease with which one can alter one's route on the go in SkyDemon. With a few touches on the map to unlock and then dogleg the route, you can quickly replan to go around an area of controlled airspace.

What some people do is to plan around it and then use the "take shortcut" functionality to replan through it if they get a clearance, but you're absolutely correct that this method adds to the time, distance and fuel calculations of the main route.

Some have suggested a mean-spirited of storing two different potential sub-routes, which would be a technically perfect solution but we think that would be overly complicated for a product that's all about simplicity of use.

During a discussion with the CAA today about the perils of navigating round a chunk of CAS when you cannot get a clearance, I compared how GA navigates compared with your average Boeing or Airbus.  In an airliner you might typically load the flight plan in the FMC/FMGC  then copy that into the secondary flight plan and amend and save it to take account of an alternative routing you might get.  You could save that just in case.  Then if ATC decide to change your expected route you could just activate the secondary, select GOTO the next waypoint in the new route and away you go.
