I agree that north up should always be used.

Well, the human brain is a strange thing - when it gets 2 informations for the same thing it expect the information to be logically connected / the same thing. A quick glance at the picture should give an orientation for the same as runway numbers and not the need for the brain to do a 90 degree turn. Flying is compass driven and my map is always north up so for me north up for runway picture is the right thing.

I do feel that runway depictions should be referenced to north. Just looks wrong to have depicted runway alignment in some arbitrary direction.

Well, it would certainly make our lives easier to always use north up, as we could rip out a whole bunch of complicated code that is used to best fit the diagram on the page. We will keep an eye on this thread and other support enquiries. For the moment we have added a clear north indicator to the diagrams for the next version.

The more I use SD the more I find that these aerodome charts are just 'wrong' the way that they are depicted.
The diagram would look no more or less "silly" whichever way it was represented, so why not just show it norh up, the way that I think most would like to see it?

North up works for me! anything else will cause me mental gymnastics that i can do without,
