Newbie on the forum but not to the product which I've used for 3 years and operate daily.
W‌ould like the opportunity to run SD on an iPad - but, and it's a big but - have not yet found a way to operate an iPad whilst wearing the required gloves.  Being an emergency services helicopter pilot,it's either the leather/nomex in the summer or leather with silk inners in the winter.  The only tablet that I found that works all the time with gloves is the (sadly no longer available) Galaxy Tab S 8.4. E‌ven so, I have to refuse to update to a higher version of Android than Lollipop as the screen sensitivity setting was removed in newer versions which would make it un-useable with gloves.
‌The battery/tablet will not last forever so, anybody else managed to overcome the problem? Using "Non fire retardant" gloves is not an option and neither is cutting holes in the finger tips of the gloves or "painting" them with "AnyGlove". Taking gloves on and off in flight isn't practical.
A‌nyone??

I've said my piece, based on years of experience from SkyDemon's support department and of writing SkyDemon for iOS and Android myself. But people just argue with me when I voice what I believe based on these experiences.

Yes, there are problems with iOS, too. But once they are solved they are solved for ALL iOS users. The Android market is much more fragmented in this sense. Each device is unique and has its own problems. And fixing bugs is a much greater pain in the a** because in many cases the SD-team would need the specific device to locate the problem quickly. I am sure they have all relevant iOS devices right in their tech department.

But it shouldn't be me talking. Tim is the one who knows first hand.

'quod esset demonstrandum' one could argue -  'Losing location data frequently after upgrade to iOS 10' is a reasonable active fred just two rows below ,in contradiction to the aforementioned thesis.

The biggest reason to go for an iPad is that you don't have to bite your nails everytime the system is updated. When I read the problems reported on this forum I get the feeling that Andoid devices are much more prone to have issues running SD. Also, one device might work OK while another makes problems. No way to tell.

iPad users are no more immune from problems arising from system updates than Android is. Just look at the problems iPad users are currently experiencing with Bluetooth connectivity as a result of updating to iOS v.10

If it helps, because of limited panel space, I run SD on my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone (Android).
Yes the display is smaller than a Nexus or Ipad mini but is perfectly usable for my in-flight navigation purposes. I even get in-flight TAF and METAR updates.
The screen built time issue has now been fixed.

If you are more familiar with the IOS environment & the hefty price tag is a non issue - go for the Ipad. Features are quite similar, but keep in mind to buy the celular device, otherwise you need an external GPS. Overheating is still a problem, but not isolated to SD only. I can hardly remember a flight in summer and/or in the southern Europe having log files in one piece out of an Ipad/Ipad mini, probably a non issue as you can merge 'em later. Android on the other hand was prone to drop outs in the past, but has stabilized a lot at least on my devices. User experience is a bit jerkyer & loading georeferenced charts is still 'a pain in the a......' often requiring 10 sec. +
Ensure to buy at least 2 Ghz & 2 Gigs RAM, because you will need it. AMOLED display is always recommended for screen brightness.

I don't think recent iPads suffer from the overheating problem that older ones did.

I got recent proofs you're wrong ...
