I am a relative newbie although I have successfully installed SD on a 7" Chinese unit and that works perfectly. However I wanted to try it on a Navigon 8410 due to the very bright screen on these units, as although the 7" display is a much better size for my old eyes, is not bright enough to be readable in the air.

I installed SD on a Navigon 8410 - with a big thanks to Pink Leader for the memory card files - and it is working OK .... of sorts. The programme starts and runs fine and I have to say at this point I am extremely impressed with the software. It is way ahead of anything else out there including the £1,000+ offerings. However when I want to edit, save or need to type in a destination the keyboard does not appear as it does on the 7" unit. The same if I click on the toggle keyboard under system menu as nothing happens. Another problem, but one I could live with, is that clicking the exit button on the system menu causes the Navigon to freeze which also happens if I click exit on the start up screen and needs to be switched off to reset.

This happens on both version 1.4.4 and the beta 1.4.5 so I believe it to be the unit software rather than SD but if that makes me sound like I know what I am talking about, then I can assure you that I do not!

Hope someone has had the same problem and knows a fix?

Regards

Hi

Glad it's working. Navigon does not have keyboard function. But find this does not matter. As long as u have used pc to plan route, not much "typing" on mobile needed. If u need to divert or "rubber band", then click & hold works fine.

Also "go to" is useful here.

To turn off, either short click of "off"button suspends navigon or hold off button until screen turns blank. This turns it off completely.

Hope this helps. BTW, have u got the device.XML file working to optimise font size? Also the click.wav file in data folder can be deleted to get rid of annoying click sounds.

Hi Pink Leader

Thanks for the info and nice to know it was not me as thought I may have not loaded some file or similar. Yes I have set 125 in the device file as the best for me. The brightness of the Navigon is great improvement over a 7 inch unit

I also have another question and again not a major problem, but when  using SD is there a way to set the unit to switch off or sleep when the external power is removed, as it does in road navigation mode? Otherwise I can see me leaving it on and draning the battery as am used to Garmin devices in both car and plane that do switch on and off with the master?

Noe that I have found. BUT, if you click the on/off button once it puts into suspend mode. Another click brings it to life immediately. To turn off completely, hold off switch till screen goes blank.

Re 8410

It has a screen brightness of 400 NITS and if you look elsehwere on forums like PocketFMS you will see that its recognised as the brightest of winCE devices.

I also have the aware device which is less bright but pretty usable. For reference ipad is about 300-350NITS. It is noticably less bright than 8410.

Do not know data for other Navigon.

Cheers

You will see a sigt diff between 300 & 400 nits. 400 far more usable. D

Some problems with the Navigon 8410:

The following scenario:

1. Rotate screen

2. Go to Route --> Route Editor: after choosing this, it is not possible to go back, since the "back" button

appears outside the screen. Any ideas to go back?

I tried to use the power button (for a short period) and turning ait back on. The image is scrambled after.

I have to shut down the device totally to recover. This is not favourable during flight.

Look in the device.xml file and reduce the dpi setting by say 10 and see what happens. My back button on 8410 is partially visible and so can be used.
