Why don't I see the US sectional background when I select that Chart Style option?

Here you can see the map doesn't look like a US sectional. In fact, there is little difference between the SkyDemon 1, SkyDemon 2 and US sectional Chart Styles, except a minor difference in the background colors.

Greg

Here is what the same area looks like on a US sectional.

To be clear, SkyDemon does not include US Sectional maps.

We have a chart style that uses similar colours, but at no point does it pretend to be an actual US Sectional map. SkyDemon is a vector charting product and we have our own charts. Nor is it really intended for use in the US; we are a European product for use in Europe.

Silly me expecting the US sectional chart style to look likea US sectional.

I keep hoping you would get serious about the US market because there really isn't any competition to the web, PC, iOS and Android combination like SkyDemon.

Just a general observation.
The UK and France use completely different map styles for their VFR (sectional?) charts. Although SD comes close to matching each country's map style I don't find any issues if slight differences exist between the displayed map and the country's printed paper chart, which I ALWAYS have with me.
As long as SD displays all the relevant aeronautical info and NOTAMS etc. then you should not have any issues regarding planning and in-flight navigation.

SD is a very good product (I don't work for them!) and I am sure it will work very well for you in USA.

I flew in the States earlier this year using SkyDemon backed up with paper charts (I'll never fly without a paper chart). Having the choice of FAA or SkyDemon style was brilliant, and even the instructor doing my BFR was impressed by the capability of SkyDemon - and he's used to flying behind a Garmin G1000 with an iPad running a suite of aviation apps.

Sure, the US Sectional isn't a pixel-perfect rendition of the FAA chart, but both the instructor and I thought that in many ways it was better. Indeed the only real criticism we could level at it was the lack of BOCAS figures as large as the MEF, but this really isn't a problem most of the time.

Believe me when I say SkyDemon is the best. I just found it interesting that the US sectional chart style doesn't look like a US sectional.

I really wish SkyDemon would seriously pursue the US market. The combination of PC-based planning and synching to my tablet is great, on top of being one of the best Android EFBs on the market.
