A couple of minor points arose from a trip from Shoreham to Thruxton & back today. (Using the latest Beta release "SkyDemon 2 Preview", 17th Jan 2011)

Would it be possible to have the "Flight Statistics" info saved to be reviewed after the flight?
The present system produces useful flight times etc. but all is lost once the program is shut down.
Would be great to have (perhaps, a la Garmin) the record of the last ten flights saved.

The second (very minor point) is that scrolling ahead to check out an airport's data, can in certain circumstances, have a frequency obscured by the aircrafts position arrow.
This happened when cross checking Popham's frequency whilst the aircraft was to the South East. Large arrow, bottom right of screen, just where the frequency was being shown. (& yes, we did have a map & Pooleys as well Tongue)
No doubt this could be overcome by changing to track up? but is there another way round it?

Every thing else seems to be working very well & the program is improving with every release.

Regards from a SkyDemon fan,

Max.

Thanks Max. Flight statistics are saved forever but are currently only viewable in SkyDemon Plan after a sync with your device. We may make them available on the device itself in the future but for the moment we do only keep the last flight in memory.

Very interesting point about the aircraft arrow obscuring the frequency... we'll have to put some thought into this but in the meantime you can drag the map around (which should make the arrow move) with a finger.

Hi Tim

Still loving it!

But....

I am running Plan and switching to GPS for flying on the same computer. The analysis shows the flight correctly, but I can't see the statistics at all, either in Plan or Mobile. What am I doing wrong?!

Those statistics in the Mobile software are available only after you have landed, I believe. Regardless, the flight log is saved into your log library and should be available in the Analysis -> Open Flight Log From Library window.

Note that flight logs are not created while in simulator mode.

Maybe I am just being a total biff Tim, but when looking at the data on my mobile device I see the take-off and landing times. When looking at the analysis on my netbook/laptop/PC I can see the flight duration and distance (as well as the elapsed time at any given point on the trace) but can not find the take-off and landing times. I think these are the 2 most important bits of info about the flight for logging and checking what time you were at a particular point.

If I am being a biff can you please tell me where to look? If I am not, can you please add these times in the analysis display?

Thanks,

When you press the Logs button the toolbar to inspect your flight logs, does the date and time of the flight appear there?

I don't think we display landing time there (or indeed in the analysis) and we probably should, yes. We probably show the total time and you'd have to add it up, which is clearly undesirable. Obviously we have work to do in this area.

Sorry for delay in replying Tim, been rather busy.

Yes, the date/time does appear in the list of flights but, as you say, it would be better to have it displayed once you have opened a flight file for analysis, along with the actual landing time.

Is there a way of reading the flight log info from a file on the SD disk?

A couple of times I have shut Skydemon down and then realised I needed to read the statistics for flight times.

You can, but it requires a little bit of cunning Smile

The last four digits of the .flightlog filename shows the time the flight started.

If you then open that file in wordpad or notepad and scroll to the end and take the number in the first column, and divide it by 60,000 that will give you the length of the flight in minutes!
