I appreciate there are a number of threads on this subject but none seem to address my problem.
I am using Skydemon on iPad mini with Dual XGPS150E external gps receiver. I have not had it up in the aircraft yet but have been checking it out in my car. The Dual app shows a good strong signal with good position data. However, Skydemon keep putting up a message saying that it is waiting for position data. Then the position will come back and then drop out again. Similarly, there is no groundspeed and no heading shown on the screen even when I am doing 60 mph. Skydemon does correctly say at the top of the screen that I am still on the ground, maybe this is the reason for the other issues.
Is this normal and do I actually have to get airborne for skydemon to work properly?
PS Using V3.2.1.1

I have also been experiencing the same problem since upgrading to iOS8.3 but the problem is not isolated to SkyDemon or the Satnav receiver you are using as I have both a BadElf receiver and a GNS200 receiver and the results are the same...SkyDemon Navigation does not work. More frustratingly I am being shunted around between Apple Support, SkyDemon support and BadElf support getting nowhere.

The article here: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems-fixes/ suggests trying Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings to fix iOS8.3 Bluetooth issues. Sorry to report trying this has not helped.

I tried this, it works, but you have to be fast as the 8.2 build will disappear soon http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-downgrade-ios-8.3-on-your-iphone-or-ipad/KR Francois

Unfortunately this is definitely an Apple bug, and there is definitely nothing we can do about it. The GPS receiver manufacturers themselves are talking with Apple about it, though, which is a good thing.

I flew on Wednesday last (15/4/15) and didn't realise there were 8.3 issues. I have a Bad Elf Pro+ and we flew almost 2 hours with a perfect GPS lock on my iPad Mini 3 which does have an internal GPS but I tend to use the Bad Elf as it tends to be more robust and reliable.
I have just checked again now, with the internal GPS both off and on, and am getting a position fix on SD as soon as the GPS gets a navigation lock.
I always make sure I update the i-devices by connecting to my Mac and updating through iTunes as the OTA update is reputedly more likely to introduce issues as it (apparently) only updates and patches iOS whereas an iTunes hard-wired update refreshes a complete replacement OS. How true this is I don't know but there have been reported comparisons with the download images for both the OTA/WiFi update and the iTunes update and the iTunes update is a fair bit bigger.

I haven't flown for a few weeks but I wish I'd visited the forum before I flew today. I only updated my iPad yesterday and like everyone else I couldn't benefit by using SD with my Garmin glow. My wife does have a nexus 7 so I'll have to give that a try until apple sort it out. I did try to downgrade back to OS 8.2 but the downloaded zipped file didn't seem to work when I synced my iPad to my PC

I found the fix below http://hiltonsoftware.com/ios83fixOne would assume it will work with SD if you simply alter the privacy settings. Haven't had opportunity to try it yet.

Hi. Just had an email from the GNS1000 manufacturer saying that iOS8.4 has resolved the problem connecting to its devices too. Haven't upgraded yet to find out because some online forums are indicating possible other problems with iOS8.4 including reduced accuracy of the inbuilt GPS in the 3G/ 4G models and battery life issues. These problems only appear to affect small numbers of users so it does look hopeful.
Having said that I reckon that skydemon has been unusable in Nav mode on my wifi-only iPad (bluetoothed with gns1000) for about a third of the time over the last 3 years due to iOS upgrades rendering the GNS device useless and Apple delays and denials. I've now gone for a 3G model which has worked consistently well. Still I shall wait a little longer before upgrading Just in case other issues emerge.

That's not relevant here unfortunately. WingX can communicate directly with the XGPS device (not via iOS location services), so changing that setting forces that scenario.

I have just been on to Apple Support about this issue. They are telling me that, as Skydemon is a third party app, then I should contact them. Apple Support tell me that Skydemon should update their app so that it takes into account all the improvements in IOS 8.3 . Now there is a surprise.

You made the mistake of mentioning a specific app. If you tell them that location services doesn't work in ALL apps (which is the case*) then they can't shift the blame onto app developers.
* except apps developed specifically for certain GPS receivers, which bypass location services.

That is almost as helpful as Apple's response.

You're welcome.
We have heard today that the iOS 8.4 beta (#2) that Apple have released to testers has fixed the issue. That's good news, as it shows that the issue will be resolved, and that it is an Apple issue.

As no solution seemed to be forthcoming from Apple in the near future and with there being a bit of a lack of help on this forum from the tech people at Skydemon I went onto the BadElf forum. There seems to be a bit more discussion there focussed on getting the issue resolved and not just accepting this crap from Apple until such a time as they can be bothered to release 8.4. Some clever techies have figured out how to roll back the update to V8.2. So being frustrated at the lack of progress thats exactly what I did and it worked out just fine and now I'm back in business with no issues. What I would say is before you do this make sure iTunes is up to date and do a backup of all of your data. In fact I did an iCloud backup of my Skydemon routes and profiles a separate iCloud backup on my iPad3 and a full iTunes backup to my MacBook Pro's hard drive just to be on the safe side. Click on this link and just follow the instructions. I was pretty worried about doing this kind of thing on an Apple device as its more akin to the kind of procedure you had to carry out on rubbish windows devices to fix various glitches. However it worked out just fine on my Ipad3 with wifi. Cheers hope this helps & happy flying James. http://jaxov.com/2015/04/downgrade-from-ios-8-3-to-ios-8-2/

Is there any indication when Apple might release 8.4?
Re James fisher post, the option of downgrading to 8.2 was mentioned on this forum about a month ago.

iOS 8.4 has definitely fixed the issue which gave rise to this thread, so I'm going to close the thread.
