I downgraded my Nexus 7 (2013) from android 5.0.2 to 4.4.4 using the procedure outlined in the ling below:

http://www.digictrl.com/how-to-downgrade-from-lollipop-5-0-to-kitkat-4-4-for-nexus/

I foud it easier to use ADB to get the nexus to boot into recovery.  I couldn't get the Power/Volume key combination to work reliably.  Since reverting to 4.4.4 I have had no trouble with SD running on the Nexus.

I've posted a new beta on our Android page today with a few tweaks in the area that is known to be causing the instability. I'd appreciate any feedback as to whether it has helped.

I've only tested this for a short while but it looks like a vast improvement. I haven't seen a crash at all yet and it was very easy to create one on previous SD versions under Android 5.0.1 on Nexus 7.

I'll keep testing and report back if I find any problems.

Hi All,

Notwithstanding the stirling work that Tim Dawson and the SD team are doing to fix the problems caused by the Google Android release of Android 5 for the Nexus 7,  I thought that I would share my experience of reverting a Nexus 7 with 5.0.2 back to Android 4.4.4.  Since re-flashing my Nexus tablet to Android 4.4.4 I have had absolutely no problems with SD stability and performance.

For those who wish to follow me in reverting their Tablets back to an earlier, more reliable, version of Android I have prepared a simple guidance document. I have also collected ALL the necessary files and packaged them up in a single Zip File, together with detailed instructions for their use. The zip file is available for download from the Public area of my DropBox account.  I have prepared 2 versions, one for the latest (2013) model of the nexus 7 and one or the earlier (2012) version. The links are:
2013 Version
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29248815/Nexus7_2013/Nexus7_2013.zip

2012 Version:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29248815/Nexus7_2012/Nexus7_2012.zip

After Downloading the Zip file to a PC, extract the contents to C:\Nexus, then follow the detailed instructions which are contained within the zip file.

If you have any problems, feel free to send me an email.  i'll try my best to assist.

Hi,

3.2.1.23341 is definitely more stable.
Anyway, it's still crashing (no particular/repeatable action) and I've collected some logs.

I'm happy to say that we've finally identified exactly why these crashes are happening. It's definitely an Android bug, but we've now been able to work around it in a way that should reduce the chances of it happening to virtually zero. This morning's beta build should be even more stable on Lollipop that previous builds have been on Kitkat. Fingers cross, anyway; I look forward to hearing feedback. But hopefully, the problem is solved.

Tim – Is there a mechanism for reporting this back to Google in the hope that the issue can eventually be resolved at source?

We've already filed a bug with them (at least our tools provider have done so on our behalf) but no response yet. It's been assigned to somebody, though.

Testing for some hours, it seems to be rock solid!
Keeping fingers crossed but it seems we finally have an Android 5.x ready version Smile

Kudos to the SD team!
