Didn't have any real positive effect on mine, using the 'release' version of SkyDemon.
Set it in flying mode to drive from Newbury to Swindon, and it crashed just as I left the M4 at Swindon.

My first post here... I run Android 5.1 on my Nexus 7. Quite disappointing. Tablet is still slow, crashing... Lately I had to systematically start SD 3 or 4 times before the program would work for a while.
I was about to search for another device to buy when I found a blog describing a very simple procedure to "clear the cache partition". To tell you the truth I am not even sure I fully understand what that does... Some cleaning I guess.
Anyway, having nothing to lose, today I gave it a try. Believe it or not, the tablet seems way more stable and fast. When I start SD, it does not close right away... Quite amazing. I am not sure the improvement will last though but even if it lasts only for 1 or 2 days, then fair enough, I will restart that short procedure every now and then...
If someone wants to try this, please be extra careful because selecting a wrong item in the menu may reset your device to factory condition.
For the ones who migh want to give it a try, here is the blog describing the procedure. http://www.voidynullness.net/blog/2015/03/17/android-nexus-7-slow-sluggish-laggy-after-lollipop-update/

Just returned from a trip to the family and tested 2 Nexus 7s - one with 5.1 and the other on 4.4.3.
The 5.1 update is certainly better than 5.02, but whereas the tablet running 4.4.3 was totally stable and worked perfectly, the 5.1 kept dropping out of SD requiring a reload and another 'Go Flying' press.
I'm not sure if it is the tablet itself that is the problem or the OS, but I'll be taking SD off the 'Lollipop' tablet as it is pretty much unusable. I will be watching for future developments and to see the OS is much more resilient before even thinking of moving to 5.x

I did the same yesterday: I used two Nexus 7 (2013), one with Android 5.02 and one with 4.4.3 and SD 3.2.1.22629 on both.
The android 4.4.3 Nexus run absolutely stable on a 6 hours flight!!! It performance in planning mode is ok.
The android 5.0.2 crashed after 30 minutes flight! The performance in planning mode is bad and it occurs a lot of system messages like that: SD is not responding: wait or end?
For my opinion the Android 5.x and SD are not compatible. I think it is not a problem of Nexus 7.
For sure I will keep Android 4.4.3.
Best regards.

I had problems with SD "dropping out" during navigation after I updated my Nexus 7 (2013) to Android 5.0.2. I re-flashed my Nexus back to Android 4.4.4 and have had no problems with SD since then.

DirDej (3/23/2015) My Nexus 7 was upgraded from 5.0.2 to 4.4.4 and yesterday it was absolutely stable during 78 min flight.Do you mean DOWNGRADED from 5.0.2 to 4.4.4 or UPGRADED from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2? You can't 'upgrade' from a newer to an older version. I only ask because I'm one of the many experiencing problems with 5.0.2 and would like to 'downgrade' back to 4.4.4, except that I'm not sure how to do this.

GEAR (3/23/2015) I had problems with SD "dropping out" during navigation after I updated my Nexus 7 (2013) to Android 5.0.2. I re-flashed my Nexus back to Android 4.4.4 and have had no problems with SD since then. I am considering this course of action also, but I have no idea how to go about it. Is it very difficult? Do I have to root my device (whatever that means)? Can you point me in the right direction please?

The link is in my post in the Planning section 'Spring cleanup ..'. You need a PC connected to the internet to download and flash the Nexus; Once you have done it, it is quite easy. Upgrade is when you improve a product, downgrade is when you make it less useful. To me the step from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 is a downgrade, have not seen any advantages for running SD;
