The new "auto update" for v.3.2.0 is welcome, but (on a PC) it forces installation to Drive C: which is a pain as I have my previous installations on another drive.

Do I now have to migrate SD to C: or is there an option somewhere to install to the existing folder or a drive of choice?

SkyDemon's program files always get installed to your Program Files folder, in the SkyDemon subdirectory. I'm afraid there isn't an option to change that in the installer as we're trying to keep it simple.

Thanks Tim, but that's not quite the issue.

I do have SD installed in a "SkyDemon" folder in "Program Files", but I boot from an SSD which is my C: drive so put the program into those same folders on a separate physical hard drive in order to save disk space for other applications. Presumably I'm not the only customer to do this?

Previously it was trivial to change c: to f: in the path on installation, but from what you say I must now move the files.  

I don't understand. From what you're describing, it sounds exactly like the issue I described too, which is that you want to install SkyDemon to somewhere other than Program Files\SkyDemon but the installer doesn't present the option to change it. If we get a lot of people asking for that option we'd probably reinstate it, but for the moment, we're aiming for a very simple installer. SkyDemon's program files total around 12mb, if memory serves, so it isn't a space hog.

I second the opinion of the original poster. I want to be in control of my computer (as much as possible) and not have a program tell me which drive it wants to reside on. My C: drive is my system drive and is physically a fast SSD but with limited space. I have a separate drive for program installations and need to be very strict about installing programs there. Otherwise my system drive will be swamped and the computer slowed to a crawl.

I don't really see the argument of an easy install as justification for robbing me of that choice. There are a large number of programs which have a default location (i.e., C:\Programs\xxx) while at the same time permitting me to interfere and change the default installation path.

Please, pretty please, don't take that choice away from the user!!!

Yes, that may be so. Still, there are many small programs I have installed. If they all use your argument I wind up with programs strewn all over the place; some here some there. I want my C: drive clean also because a system install will leave my programs intact. I have a system drive (C: ), a data drive (D: ) and a programs drive (E: ). And I hate it if people keep telling me how I should organize my computer (nothing personal in your case, I'm sure). Considering how easy it is to (a) have a simple install procedure and (b) provide the flexibilty to choose the install path.

I write code myself and develop the odd application. I use Install Shield. It is trivial to specify a default installation path and also give the user the choice.

Most programs use the Windows registry to store paths and other stuff. Moving any of the files breaks the program. It is a big no-no to simply move a programs files to another location and still expect it to work. Recently, some programs are distributed as specifically portable versions, meaning you can run them from any location (e.g., a USB stick). But that is a rare occasion.

I agree, most people are simply not computer literate enough or don't care. They don't see the benefit of keeping system files, program files and data files on different drives (or at least different partitions of the same physical drive). But why would the minority, who care and try to keep their computer organized have to pay for this?

And in this case it sooooo easy to make both factions happy.
