I am using Centrafuse Localizer on my Win 8.1 machines (one desktop, one ASUS Viviotab Smart tablet) in order to make my internal GPS sensor data available via a COM port.

The data is being presented via Localizer, but when SD navigation is started it crashes immediately. There is nothing in the event logs to explain the crash.

I have a screenshot of Localizer, which seems to be showing the type of GPS data it is presenting if it helps.

We can't really help you with this unless you're able to provide a dump of some of the GPS data being sent to SkyDemon, for our debugging purposes.

Asus Vivotab, WIN8.1, Broadcomm GNSS, Centrafuse Localizer

To say that the failure of Microsoft to make provision for Existing Generic GPS software to access inbuilt GNSS under WIN8 is short sighted is an understatement.

Under win 8.0 the localizer software and SD (and another Sat nav Mapping application) worked well enough. Since upgrading to Win 8.1 I have had little luck getting the SD Navigation mode to run using Localizer (M Map still works ok)

Solutions seen to revolve around

SD writing the navigation element to address the Win Location platform instead of (or as well as) com ports and so removing the need for a product like Localizer

or Broadcomm/Asus producing an updated GNSS driver

or Centrafuze doing some reprogramming

People using generic marine software are having exactly the same issues. It's a mess that leaves us consumers very frustrated

I had some success using the Lenovo GNSS driver under win 8.1 but it wasn't perfect - often taking 5 to 10 mins to find satellites, so for the time being I've rolled back to the default GNSS driver and use this for M Map and a Bluetooth GPS receiver for SD

New Localizer version 4 and new licence file installed April 2014.


Generic Sat Nav software Memory Map and SkyDemon now able to use inbuilt Broadcom GNSS in Win8.1 Asus Vivotab
Altitude and position reporting seems accurate enough with acceptable update interval. Start up reading of the datastream can be slow.


Installation frustrating. Must be installed and RUN as administrator or it crashes. This can be automated through Windows.
Once correctly installed and RUN as administrator, assigning a COM port (eg COM6) is easy.

Localizer 4.1.13.405 version of Localizer isn't reporting Altitude correctly although it otherwise seems ok and reliable. This has been acknowledged by Mark at the company on pages 10 and 11 of their Localizer 4 thread on their forum

Localizer 4.1.14.424 version seems to be working well. Altitude corrected. It didn't help that there seemed to be an issue with my Broadcom GNSS driver. After installing another and rolling back it seems to be resolved.

Hi

Just goto Localizer 5 from Centrafuse and loaded it on my Toshiba Encore Win8.1
Loads fine with no issues
But when it starts up, no signals detected...

Have successfully got GPS signal on GPS Satellite.

Any help gratefully received!

I have a toshiba encore with W8.1 as well and had the same problems. What seemed to work for me was;
install the lenove gnss driver; search for Broadcom BCM4752 GPS Driver on the lenovo.com support site.
Further reinstall localizer as administrator, and then run it as administrator. Than go outside with clear view at the sky. Be sure both items in the upper right corner of localizer are green (indicating you have a virtual com port, and a gps fix). If both are green, start skydemon, set your com port in setup-gps navigation options. Be patient. If skydemon crashes, close it and start it again. Finally being outside helped me. Once a fix has been achieved, it (later) also worked inside (but not always!). So best is to have a fix before starting sky demon.
