Success with help from Avast
This has cured the problem. For reference if anyone else has the same problem.
1) Open avast!
2) Click "Settings"
3) In the new window select "Antivirus" and scroll on EXCLUSIONS
4) Click BROWSE button and browse for the file or folder you wish to exclude from scanning (you should add the application folder to this exclusion list. It is usually located in C:\Program files\(Program name folder)\*
Why has Avast started treating something in SD as a virus?

I don't think anyone else has reported a problem. Have you contacted the vendors of the AV software?

Now running SD 3.0.1. Now SD does not start at all unless I deactivate Avast.

Yesterday I downloaded version 3.0 to one of my laptops
I also updated my avast free antivirus on this machine to their 2014 version.
There seems to be a conflict somewhere.
If I switch off avast file system shield and avast web shield, no problems (I think). If I don't, then Skydemon loads, stays on for approx 10 seconds and then disappears.
I have scanned this laptop with avast and malware bytes but nothing funny.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Obviously SkyDemon can't test their product with every possible combination of operating system and programs but it would be good to know if this is a conflict or just a problem with this laptop.
(Laptop runs Windows 7 Professional 64 bit)
