just updated to latest version for ipad from app store,
Have noticed that after update - i press go flying and i just get message (seeking gps satellites) and nothing happens. No satellite lock
Also my last logged flight before update - i press show breadcrum and skydemon crashes to desktop.
i have over 60hrs logged with skydemon on ipad and find the software fantastic,
Like new skratchpad 2nd page and skydemon 2 map,
Hope there is fix for the 2 issues i found as i hope to use ipad when flying at weekend.

I to have updated, I can load the last flight log this works with no problem for me. Love the new scrtachpad and even better, the ability to save waypoints to the cloud, excellent, well done SkyDemon Team. I also seem to be having the issue with the GPS fix, with a course loaded and on GoFlying, I am getting a "No Course, Position Unknown" & the "Seeking GPS Satellites" banner. I am hoping this is down to being inside and the bad weather, will try outside later today.

Just flown(in the car) to the office and the same error occurs, Seeking Satellites. Other GPS apps working fine.
In addition I have experienced the SkyDemon front screen freeze having hit the I Agree button. This has now happened three times and can only be overcome by restarting the device.

Hi Check that SkyDemon has permission to access your location services. On iOS 6, this is under Settings > Privacy > Location Services. On prior versions, it's Settings > Location Services. You should never have to reboot your device for an unresponsive app. If this happens again:- Press the home button once to return to iPad home screen Double tap the home button When the multitasking bar appears at the bottom of the screen, press and hold on the SD icon, then tap the (-) sign when it appears.

Hi I am getting the same issues on iPad 3, I have made sure location services is on for Skydemon, still seeking GPS Satellites is showing in a green banner. Weather is updating fine metar and tafs but no Satellite fix. I have deleted SD and synced with my Mac to go back to SD before the update and this works fine, installed the update again and the same happens, any ideas?
Cheers

I have location services set to on.
I have tried using built in gps and with external gps reciever that i use when flying.
All other apps i have on ipad work ok and get gps signal.
I was flying all day Saturday and Sunday and only thing changed is update to app last night.
Only since update is Sydemon not getting gps signal.
Once again Skydemon is the best software i have used for flying and i appreciate all the hard work involved in programing.
As an option to resolve - If i delete app and re-install, would i lose all my flight logs and waypoints on ipad
Many thanks

Hi Same thing here. Seeking GPS Satellites!! But there is another problem. When trying to plan a flight from ELNT to LFJD the device crashes every time I try. Journey's to Germany work fine but in that area of France, there is a problem. Somebody got an idea? Jean-Paul

New version looks good. I like the starfish and the fact that licensed aerodromes are now selectable at lower zoom levels.
I also had a problem initially in iPad 1 with ios5 in accessing gps satellites. However, it cleared for me when I.
1. Closed down skydemon 2. Switched off wifi 3. Switched off Bluetooth 4. The switched on Bluetooth and started my gns 5870 gps. 5. Started skydemon, selected go flying and hey presto, it worked, blue aircraft on my house. 6. Remembered to turn on wifi afterwards.

Hi everyone, Same problems here on iPad: - I cannot display the track of my last flight... it makes SD crashes !
- In flight mode, SD is seeking satellites without success, which is the most annoying bug.
Thanks Tim for a quick fix to these two bugs. Best regards, julien

I found the latest version very unstable. Crashes on launch or freezes in use. Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but it appears that both SkyDemon and SkyDemon Light have now been pulled from the iTunes store…

Hi,
I'm seeing the startup problem on the recent update (Oct 11 - I think it's 2.4.3).
I'm running an iPad 1 on IOS 5 with integrated 3G/GPS, Wi-Fi switched on.
Starting up SkyDemon, when clicking on the "I Agree" on the first screen - I see the following behaviours:
- It will hang - no response
- It will exit (after a while)
- It will start up OK
It appears to be unpredictable which will occur.
I have not tried GPS nav.
Stop press: I've just noticed that SkyDemon has disappeared from the iTunes store. I guess it's being updated. If so, thanks for the quick response on this...
Chrysalid.

Given that the App has disappeared from the iTunes store (and that I need it operational tomorrow - SkyDemon's update on Facebook says they'll try to get an updated app by Monday/Tuesday)... does anyone know if the following will work:
(I should still have the .ipa from the previous SkyDemon App version on my PC (I haven't synced since I updated the SkyDemon App))
1. Uninstall the current version of the App from the iPad.
2. Sync the iPad (and hopefully iTunes will put the previous .ipa onto the iPad)
I realise that I'll lose all content from the iPad - but the save/load to/from cloud will be beneficial here.
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks,
Chrysalid

Very annoying!
I waited and waited to see if there would be any announcement about an Android (my preferred platform) version of Sky Demon but with nothing forthcoming I went out and bought an iPad last week. Installed Sky Demon, updated last night in preparation for going flying with it today and the damn thing doesn't work!
Really very unsatisfactory and very disappointing. Was there no form of quality control prior to the release of this update?
On a slight plus side despite my distaste for the Apple company and the way it does business I have been very impressed with the iPad!

The following definitively worked for me: - In iPad hold down SD icon until it shakes and gets a X
- Press the X
- Plug into PC and load iTunes
- Go to LIBRARY/Apps
- Find SD Icon
- Drag it to DEVICES/your iPad
I now have the previous version on my iPad.

Hi everyone, I like most people it seems jumped the gun a little and went ahead and downloaded the latest update of Skydemon to my iPad3 (New iPad) thinking all the Beta testing had been done and all would be ok as is normally the case. Alas it seems one big bug has squeezed through the quality control net! Same errors as all and a big Green Banner "Seeking GPS Satellites" I guess most of you like me are looking forward to the weekend and with a bit of luck some flyable weather with the good old Skydemon on my knee for assistance. (Oh no back to using the chart!!!) All is not lost if you have an iPad and iTunes on a PC or Mac, can't verify if this will work on a PC as I use a Mac but I can't see why it wouldn't. 1. Open iTunes and DO NOT select the option to update any of your Apps. 2. On your iPad close Skydemon, double click the home button then click the - (minus) on the App icon. 3. Click the home button again and this will take you to the home screen, find the Skydemon icon and hold your finger down on it until wobbles and a x (cross) appears then click the cross, this will delete it from your iPad. 4. Connect your iPad to your computer and select the device in the left hand pane and wait for it to sync, (this will sync it up minus the new updated version of Skydemon) 5. After the sync is complete look through your list of Apps and you will see Skydemon app is not ticked, (providing you have not updated your Apps through iTunes) then this is the old version before the update. 6. Tick the Skydemon App, click apply bottom right and then click sync, this will install the version before the update with the bug in it. You will end up having to set it back up as all waypoints etc will be lost but at least you will be able to take that flight and planning the easy way with your old trusty Skydemon companion! Hope this helps and Happy Safe Flying Nige

Navigation is working for me on 2.4.3. I have an external GPS (not an Apple-approved - I use RoqyBT4 on a jailbroken iPad to use a GlobalSat GPS). I don't know if this makes a difference.
But I do have the problem with opening a log file from a previous flight - the app crashes. I also experiences freezes on the splash screen, and I have to close SkyDemon and try again.

I never sync using iTunes so as far as I can see, there is no way of reverting to the previous version. This is where Apple's model is really unhelpful. It would be child's play to reinstall an old version on Pocket PC or other OS, directly from Skydemon. I suppose it is not possible for Tim to put up the previous version onto Itunes to restore from that after deleting current version.

I have the new version of Skydemon. I have an iPad 3, but am still running ios 5 It is not jail broken.
I have turned my wifi off, to avoid that being used as a source, and turned my external Dual GPS on. Sat in my study, I have tried clicking 'Go Flying' many times and SkyDemon has worked correctly. I tried turning the GPS off to confirm that it was the true source and my plane correctly turned red several seconds later. I tried loading a previous route and it showed the breadcrumb trail correctly.
Hope this info helps the attempts to diagnose the fault.

Well, one sure way to test map and compass skills today was to upgrade to iOS6 and latest Skydemon and jump in the aircraft with a Pax. Asked them to hold the iPad and uttered the immortal phrase - "yes, it will say seeking satellites for a while - don't worry about that. We don't really need it, we have the chart and compass and the vis is reasonable today." After 45 mins of flight through a few light showers and a wet landing at Compton Abbas, he commented that "the satellites must be pretty lost, if we're still seeking them!" Would be grateful for the ability to retro-grade via iPad - could have reverted to previous version if available whilst sat having a very nice sausage and chips lunch. Still, practice with the eyeball was worth it.

Grrr same thing happening to me! I really could have done with Skydemon this weekend as well. No satellite lock and the search function is not working for me as well. Thats the last time I install an update without leaving it a few days first to make sure it works! There really should be a way without itunes to go back to a previous version. Also not too pleased there has been no comment from the Skydemon team on this problem. Not happy at all.

The following worked for me:- Launch SD and enter Go Flying mode. Press the home button, go to Settings, and turn off location services completely (master switch at the top, not the SD specific setting). Turn location services back on. Switch back to SD

Hi Steinardo That's a good point, unless someone can say otherwise best not. Licences are too valuable to give out! Thanks for the reply though. Lets hope we get at least a comment from SD when the issues will be fixed! Bit simplistic perhaps, but could they not just re release the previous version if the the fix is going to be prolonged.

I managed to reinstall the old 2.4.2 from the backed up ipa file. Lost my logs though, but have them backed up on the computer. But I am unable to move them into the Logs folder on the ipad, anyone got a clue on that? Seems I can move the log files into the root folder, but that's it.

One way is to use the "i-funbox" program, free (I think) & easily found. Connect iPad, start i-funbox & Navigate to "User Applications/SkyDemon/Documents/Logs" At the top of page choose Copy from PC. Then simply copy from C:\Users\Your Name\Documents\SkyDemon\Logs ) or wherever Skydemon data is on your comp.
My greater problem was user waypoints. SkyDemon on the PC said "File too big for the cloud", so had to export the file to desktop as a .gpx & then remame it to: yourchoice.waypoints.gpx this can then be transferred via iTunes to Skydemon.
Hope it helps a little,
regards,
Max.

I post this because I am not sure if everyone has got this info from SD. If the user community already have this e-mail, or this information, I apologize for taking up your time. If the user community don´t have this information it´s a pity. (INFORMATION IS ESSENTIAL) Regards P-A This was mailed to me from Hannah Hart on October 12, a quick reply to my inquiry, which is good : It appears to be the case that some of our users areexperiencing problems with acquiring a GPS fix in Go Flying mode since updatingthe SkyDemon iPad app to version 2.4.3. We have yet to identify why this is happening, but rest assured we areworking as hard as we can to fix this issue as quickly as possible. Due to Apple's App Store policies we are not permitted tore-publish a previous, stable version of the app, which leaves us with nochoice but to pull version 2.4.3 until it can be fixed and re-submitted. This, regrettably, may not be resolved untilMonday, as Apple's approval process for the submission of new apps is not animmediate one. We are communicating withApple on this matter to get the fixed app expedited as quickly as possible andour highest priority is now focussed on resolving this issue. All we can do at this stage is apologise unreservedly andsincerely for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused to thosewishing to fly with their iPad over the weekend, and we hope to be able tooffer a resolution to this situation as quickly as we can. Regards, Hannah Hart | SkyDemon www.skydemon.aero

Thanks for the update from SD. I'm having all the same problems too as described in this forum, especially the green "searching for satellites" banner. (I'm using iPAD 3, external GNS 100 GPS receiver + the latest version of SD). But it all started to go wrong from the moment I upgraded to IOS6 rather than when I installed the very latest version of SD a few days ago. It's been 6 weeks now since getting the nav upgrade and it worked beautifully for the one day of flying I had with it, and nothing since. None of the suggested solutions in this forum seem to work.I'm wondering whether I have more than one problem as, if I understand what people are saying here, the previous version of SD works fine with IOS6 in nav mode?

For what it's worth, although I still use SD 2.4.2 (not updated yet thankfully!) I had trouble connecting the external Bluetooth GPS after upgrading to IOS6 (note, the connection was fine, but none of the apps ever got a gps fix). The solution to get the GPS working in Maps and other GPS apps was to unpair the BT GPS mouse, a complete restart of the iPad (long-press on-off button) and then reconnect the GPS.

New version of SD is out! GPS Bug is fixt, but still the problem when planning flights in the French Alpes region. Can somebody try to creat a route from LFSJ TO LFJD and report if a problem occurs? When doing so, me SD stops working while trying to update the information on that route online. Does anyone else out there confirm the problem?

Jean-Paul,
I confirm your problem. I experienced the same on my iPad.
One of the potential reason I see is that LFJD is not mentioned/dispalyed on the SD map on iPad (even though (i) it exists in the database on the iPad and (ii) it is clearly displayed on SD for Windows) : Tim any idea ?
Moreover, I got the same problem (SD trying to update/download data and finally freezing for any navigation in the area (French Alps)) even for a short navigation. Try to plan : LFXA - LFKY and tell me if you also get the bug.
EDIT : this problem exists for me at least for all south-east of France ! I didn't test somewhere else.
Tim, your help would be really appreciated.
Thanks, Julien

Hi Julien, You are wright! Every journey in the region of the french alps produce the same bug :-( LFJD with is Corlier Altiport is shown on my Ipad. Try this: On Sky Demon on your Ipad, choose "Map Layers" / scroll down to Waypoints and choose "Airfileds"! At the bottom you can set "Min Runway Length"!! Set it to "nothing". This may solve your problem. Corlier is only 300m long and might not be shown for that reason. I hope that helps Jean-Paul

Jean-Paul, You're right. I can now see the small "Corlier" (LFJD) airfield on SD for iPad. Now, it remains to understand why SD is freezing when planning a flight in south-east of France Thanks, Julien

Hello, I've just made the last update of SD few minutes ago to SD 2.4.4 The app is not working any more on my ipad 2 (with BT GPS receiver, no 3G). I noticed that the app launch but then freeze, and I have to wait 2/3 minutes before it crash. This is not happening when I turn off the WIFI receiver of the Ipad, SD is usable but without last data. I'm leaving in the south East of France, and as you said previously, the "map" is not usable there (CORSICA, CANNES, TOULON, AIX, MARSEILLE) If someone can fix that quickly, it would be wonderful!

Tim any idea ?

This appears to be a bug in the processing of NOTAM when drawing them on the map, specifically the code that extracts coordinates from NOTAM for graphical depiction. It is a long delay rather than a freeze, so if you are patient and wait it out, you won't actually see the same delay again for the same NOTAM unless you restart the software (or a new NOTAM brief is obtained). This is a bug in the underlying platform upon which we depend, so we are working closely with them to get a resolution.

I tried to wait... a very long time (around 15 mn) ... but finally SD stopped to work and I had to restart it. I'm sorry but at the moment, planning in south east of France is really not possible for me.
Thanks SD team for your efforts in investigating this issue, in particular with your data provider.
