I've not found the root problem but I've found a workaround.

On both tablet and phone search for a post code whilst the unit is offline. This brings up the 'Install the UK Post Code file' prompt as in my photo above.

Without selecting it reinstate the online connection (wifi/data) and then tap the prompt. The file is then downloaded and the unit finds postcodes when offline as intended.

I hope that helps.

Yes, that's how the UK postcode file works in SkyDemon. I've now tried it on Android and iOS and it's working as intended here, which doesn't help us figure out what's going wrong on your device. We're showing you that error because we've tried to download the postcode file and haven't succeeded, and it's hard to work out why remotely.

Could someone else please try this functionality and let us know whether it works for you?

Yes. When selecting 'Install the UK post code' prompt the Skydemon download box appears (little aircraft on a waving line) but is then immediately overwritten by the no connection box shown in the photo. It would appear that whilst the system works fine when online, it's only downloading the requested postcode rather than the whole UK file. As I remember it, once you selected an initial post code it prompted you to install the whole UK file that was then accessible offline. That's what I'm now missing.

Currently running two Samsung A9s with One UI version 8 and Android 16. Both showing the same issue along with a Tab A7 Lite and a Samsung S25 phone all on latest available software

Skydemon is updated to 4.2.4.0 on all devices.

Thanks. Can you confirm that appears when you click the button to install the postcode file, and that you do in fact have an internet connection?

Please also confirm what version of SkyDemon you're running there.

Could you show a screenshot of the offline message you're getting please?

Hi Tim,

As far as I can remember I used the 'email us' link on the contact us page. I don't have record of a reply so don't know if it was received.

I am using two Samsung S9's with the latest software and a couple of older Android tablets. All suffer the same symptom in that when searching for a postcode offline the box appears to source the postcode file but is then overwritten with an offline message.

The reason I am keen to rectify this is that I've been asked whilst inflight to overfly a postcode but can't then source it.

When did you send this email request? We always respond to emails, so I want to investigate that first if you still haven't got a response.

I cannot reproduce the issue you are describing here with a red line. The UK postcode file support is still there on Android/iOS, although to be honest you'll find it hard to get to, because on those operating systems we have full street address search, powered by the operating system itself. You'll only be prompted to install the UK postcode file if there are no street address results from the operating system, which will probably entail entering an invalid postcode.

It's definitely an issue for me on all my old and up to date Android tablets. Although I have to apologise in saying that it affects my Windows PC. It would appear that's okay.

It seems an oddityon this forum that you can't edit a post without being told that you're limited to a ten minute time ban. By the time you return to do so the forum has also blocked off the edit prompt!

I’ve just tried this (from outside the UK as it happens) and it’s worked for me both on- and offline (iDevice though).
