Hi,

Today on a local flight I was using SD 4.1.2.418 on an iPad Mini 5 (iOS 18.4) and had a weird behavior I'd never seen before:
The first approx. 25 minutes of the flight SD was behaving as expected (correct map position, correct heading, etc), using the built-in iPad location services (GPS). But suddenly, the heading of the plane kept changing erratically by large amounts (nose turning left or right by 20, 30, or more deg), and the map started jumping around by several miles at a time. It felt like SD was getting was erratic GPS data, however, the iPad always had a clear view of the sky.

This went on for minutes. I then used the iOS app switcher to quit SD (swipe up) and restarted SD. After selecting "Go Flying" the map and heading behaved normally again and remained normal for the rest of the flight (15 mins).

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks

SkyDemon just shows whatever is coming in from the device's location services, which is normally GPS/GNSS.

Right. So it's either a problem with the iOS location services (GPS/GNSS) delivering wrong data or with how SD receives and processes that data. Since the behavior went away after restarting SD only (not iOS), that seems to indicate to me a bug in SD or at least a bug in the communication between iOS and SD.

That has happened only once to me so far. Wondering if others have seen this, too?

There isn't any processing, really. It just comes in and we display it. I haven't seen anything like this before.

Ok, thanks. Weird. There have been reports of GPS/GNSS jamming in Europe recently. But that wouldn't explain why the behavior suddenly normalized when I restarted SD.

I'll keep an eye on it.

I have seen this as well, but with two different external sources 1) SE2, 2) SafeSky receiving data from PowerFLARM Fusion.  When it happens the only "cure" is to stop navigating, and go flying with the internal GPS.  I have not seen this with the internal GPS.

Hi,
I have the same issue in France.
On four different flights, the heading is jumping around and it can be different from the track. Yep.
i.e. Track path is draw to West (it is correct) and heading is pointing 070° !!
Btw if you try to turn left to match the path.. you go South. This is crazy and dangerous if you thrust the heading.
Sometimes my track is also jumping, I make some supersonic flights...

I don't know if this behavior is due to my Samsung Galaxy A11+ that is knowed to have a change in the way Samsung is providing the GPS info because of Android 16 One UI 8.0, or from Google precision location, or from the third (including SkyDemon).
The problem is not continuous, it append as well as it goes away.
Anyway IT IS A BUG even if the developers hate this word.
The first time I solved it by shutting down the network. Great ... then I realized that I lost the Airfield data !  OMG !! Not a good way :-(
After that I tried to cut off précision localization from goggle, but Skydemon was unable to get GPS fix (even with 20 sats around..)

This problem appears like a rabbit pulled out of a magician's hat.
The first occurrence about Samsung are last year and does mainly concern Android 16 One UI 8.0
My observations, make me think that SkyDemon, or Goggle localization service, is sometimes using the GPS data (correct) and proudly switch to Wifi localization when he is able to catch one ! (in case you fly low, or if you are in standby on an airfield, and so on)
Switching to Wifi localisation is stupid in flight... and shoud be blocked.
On the other hand the app doesn't work if you don't give the wifi permission. Ha ha ha !
So far I think I have a work arroud, I will test it and let you know if it works.
I'm a bit angry that SkyDemon didn't answer to my mails.

Next picture is a Take off....

Heading tells me to go left... I'm trying to, I swear it !!!

Please share your issues, it will help me to test and find a work arroud.

Since SkyDemon is very clearly not responsible for the location data being given to it by the operating system, I am struggling to understand what exactly you expect us to do about it.
