Yes indeed. That is how NOTAMs work everywhere, except in unusual circumstances where less notice is given. I'm still not clear on what you're suggesting we do, though. Is it that you want us to give NOTAM information (where one/some exist) alongside the airspace information shown when the user presses the ? button?

It would be nice to have a direct link to the Notam when planning and going thru Warnings. In Warnings users can only get the position/picture of the restricted area by pressing binoculars. To find if there is a Notam users have to step thru several pictures or going thru all Notams. If you could add a “button” to the left of the binoculars on the warning if there is a Notam that would be fine. When pressing it - show the Notam.
When flying NOTAM information (where one/some exist) should be shown when the user presses the ? button?
As mentioned by Naviair the activation of R-area is done the day before and furthermore most VFR pilots have internet access just before departing so the Notams would be updated at that time.

Thanks for a great program - all my friends flying with Garmin cockpits use SkyDemon for planning and overwiew - even some IFR pilots😄

Ok, thanks Martin. I've made a note of those very reasonable requests and we'll see what we can do over the coming months.

Hello Tim,

I'm still getting a scare every time from the red area and popup when I'm flying through a NOTAM activated area that's not active at the moment. The red is a surprise since you didn't see any red while planning, but grey. There are many of these regions in the Netherlands and even more in Belgium. I really hope this will be changed soon.

If you are afraid of clearing these areas, I think you could show it as grey and present the user with extra information on when the NOTAMs were read (e.g. NOTAM refreshed 1h 21m ago). Maybe make it red anyway if that was more than 4 (or configurable) hours ago.

To prevent this being a surprise while flying, when the user goes to navigation mode, you can give a popup if an area is now active while it was not active while planning, or if the NOTAM's haven't been read recently.

Around Oslo, Norway we also have a lot of NOTAM activated restricted areas, and it is a bit annoying to have these red warnings popping up. If it is not possible to link these areas to active NOTAMS, maybe such areas could be included as a line item under the menu "Airspace Warnings". Alternatively that the warning stays on the screen only a defined period of time (user selectable).

It shouldn't be a surprise that you are shown a warning when flying towards a danger/restricted area with SkyDemon; such warnings are a feature of the software. It is difficult to positively determine that such an area is not activated, because NOTAMs are fairly often not properly formatted. We did try this, but we found too many instances where there was a NOTAM activating a piece of airspace but we couldn't programmatically determine that from its contents.

Perhaps we should re-visit the topic and see if we could enable it per-country, depending on whether that country appears to be good at formatting its NOTAMs.
