If an airfield has been given neither an ICAO designator nor any other kind of local designator, then it becomes very difficult to link a document to it, for reasons that I hope are obvious.

Hi, I've tested this only for France but it seems that any 4 letter names can be used as ICAO designator for a custom airfield. It's a limitation, but it seems ok to me for not yet in SD registered airfields. But what if we want to add custom info to an airfield with a local designator for France, such as : LF8364. This is a new airfield near Flayosc with no standard ICAO designator, so adding a pdf with custom info is not possible. Is there a solution ? Best Regards Francis NB : I'm especially interested in adding a pdf with custom info because there is an error in the information provided by SD on this airfield, which I have reported in an other topic.

That is the case for almost all microlight airfields in Spain ... SD has incorporated the basic information, but they have just names. Anyway, it is not a big problem, I incorporated in the Users' Documents the PDFs I created out of information found in Internet and it is easy to use them inside SD. It is anyway a pity that the first four letters of the name cannot be interpreted as designator (ESTARTIT could be ESTA ...etc)

(Why this contraint?) Since SD does not check if the code is unique, why not simply accept any designator ? Preferebaly we should then use the designator already in use, so the user can upload a pdf file with the name <designator_in_use>+_anyname.pdf As in viladamat_myInfo.pdf for Spain or LF8364_myinfo.pdf for France

Off course the France plates can be downloaded, that is not the issue. I want to be able to add *my detailed* information to the basic BASULM info ! Like adding circuit paterns, entry points, ... not always on the BASULM plates.

I believe I agreed in page 1 of this thread to add support for user documents matching LFxxxx_ as well as the existing ICAO lookup for user documents. This work has been done, but we haven't yet released a new software version.
If an airfield has neither an ICAO designator nor a local identifier (such as the French microlight airfields) then there isn't much we can do to make it easy for you to look up documents.

If an airfield has neither an ICAO designator nor a local identifier (such as the French microlight airfields) then there isn't much we can do to make it easy for you to look up documents. Great !!! looking forward to the new release ! For airfields with no coded designator... surely there must be some reference encoded internaly in SD which could be used as reference for the user pdf name ... ;-)) At the input screen of the Custom data > Airfield Editor you have already foreseen two input options : ICAO Ident: or Other Ident:

There isn't, actually. As you said, you have either ICAO identifier or other identifier (we call that "local" identifier internally because it's not internationally unique). The LFxxxx used in France are local identifiers. Italy is another good example where they are used.
