Dear Skydemon Team,

since the last chart update the reporting point S for Basel (LFSB) disappeared from the chart.
Any idea what happened? All the others are still there and correct.

Thanks

Thomas

Thanks. Yes, I think I know what happened, it's due to internal data format changes and the fact that reporting point is French but in Switzerland. We will get the problem resolved for the next chart update.

Just to bring this topic up again: The "S" exists now twice. So it seems that it is somehow back on the original (french?) data source.
Another topic: In the airfield brief, the ground frequency (121.6) is shown as TWR frequency for Basel. May have something to do with the frequency information for the airport (approach info) where all the call signs are now in french since the latest chart update?

Thanks. You're right; the problem of a French VRP in Switzerland occurred before when we changed the way we processed data for our Switzerland chart. It has now occurred again now that we've performed the same review for our French chart. We will again get it resolved, and the duplicate will be removed.

Also, thanks for alerting us to the problem with the ground frequency. This is due to the way frequencies are given to us by the French authorities but we can correct it for the next data update. Ground frequencies are given to us with the TWR designation but we can use the presence of "sol" in the callsign to infer they are actually GND frequencies.

Hi Tim,

to show the french callsign is not correct.
Only the french speaking pilots are using "Tour" instead "Tower".

We are happy to show the callsigns are promulgated in the official source of the data, which is AIP France. Whether you choose to use the English versions on the radio is up to you. A large proportion of our users using the data for this airfield will, of course, be French speakers.

Fortunately we can download the civil AIP directly from SD!

But, the first information is in english, not in french.

Good for the french pilots, of course.

In Germany its also good for the french and other foreign pilots, because they find the international spelling in SD:

And not only the german:

As far as I can see, it makes sense to give all information in English PLUS local language or only English, but NEVER only local language.

Tricky, I guess showing local language is the only way to make sure the language shown is really available at the airfield. Especially in France it is not uncommon to have English radio on prior request only, or only at certain times.

How would one map that into a solution like Skydemon? Yes, you could set up a cloud based system, connect all airfields to Skydemon and start filing language requests to French airfields, but I suspect the fields will only laugh and ignore it.

If we would finally agree on one aviation language worldwide for commercial and leisure flying and end the ICAO language freedom, it would ease things, of course.
