Not sure if it's particularly helpful, but another data point perhaps. I flew with my original Nexus 7, upgraded to 5.0.2 and SkyDemon dropped back to home screen a number of times during the flight.

I see a new version was distributed a day or two ago. Does this attempt to fix this issue, or is it just a 'regular' release?

srayne, thanks for helping Skydemon to try to resolve this problem. Very much appreciated Smile

Steve & Tim,

It's no problem now that I've managed to 'root' my Nexus.

BTW I have noticed another bug in the live plog on the Nexus 7 running latest Android (5.0.2): When pressing and holding a waypoint name in the live plog instead of the waypoint context popup menu appearing (which it used to do on an earlier beta) the Android cut/copy/paste menu is briefly displayed across the top of the screen and then disappears. Not sure when this behaviour started but it was definitely before the last experimental build.

Thanks Simon, that does help. It will probably be a few days before another test, at which point I'd be very grateful for your continued help.

Ok, our tools provider is tracking down the cause of the bug some are running into. We have produced an experimental build which I have made available at the link below. This shouldn't be considered a beta release but something ONLY for people running Lollipop who are experiencing severe stability problems. Others should continue to use the regular beta. We need to know if this build below improves matters for those running Lollipop.

Thanks.

Thanks Simon. That is the issue we are still trying to track down. It's not a problem in SkyDemon code but somewhere else, so we're trying to work with our tools provider on this.

Here's a logcat file from a crash immediately after launching SD and going into simulation mode. I hope this helps.

Just for interests sake, I have one other Android app -- Flightradar 24 -- which crashes so frequently, it is unusable, so SD are not the only victims! I've emailed the developers and they are a bit non-plussed, but I understand that there is an imminent update on the way.

I would still not expect everything to be perfect as at least one stability problem is an Android bug. I'm hoping the forthcoming Android 5.1 release will include the fix they have developed.

I really feel uncomfortable when reading that statement.

I use several Android devices (around 7 now), most of them running Android 5 (from 5.0 to 5.0.2) and absolutely everything piece of software is stable. Except Skydemon.

Even the most resource intensive games, VFR navigation, picture edition or home automation tools are running fine. All without a glitch. Yes, most of the apps have been updated just after Android 5.0 launch, sometimes in a very unscheduled way, but they are all running fine since then.

So, perhaps something is wrong with Android 5. Certainly it is. But it seems that the nasty bug that makes every app on earth crashing is not inevitable and waiting Android 5.1 is not the only solution.
