Hi Tim Downloaded and installed the latest beta (19 December). Still experiencing random crashes to the desk top in simulation mode. Some time ago I had problems with another app and the developers were unable to figure out what was going on, so they issued a beta with some additional code which created a log.txt file each time the app was run. That meant I was able to email the log files to them without getting involved in techie stuff, like having to install the Android SDK. On receipt of the log file, they were able to sus out the problem and issue an update. Perhaps this is something you might like to consider for the future, since it would enable non-techie types like to me to assist in debugging/fixing problems. Just a thought, as I'm keen to help if I can.

We would certainly do that if it could help in this case. Unfortunately it cannot. The problem under Lollipop is one of general instability and isn't caused by anything specific in SkyDemon code; it's a runtime issue that our tools provided are working on.

OK Tim. Understood. Let's hope your tools provider can come up with a fix before too long. Festive greetings to you and the team.

I've just uploaded a new beta with a change that might help. By help, I don't mean it will solve the problem entirely, but it might dramatically lessen the frequency of occurrences. Then again, it might not; a complete and true fix for the issue is still down to our tools provider.

Many thanks Tim. I'll give it a whirl (to coin a phrase!).

Hi Tim I'm not sure whether or not you need to know this, or whether I'm just being a nuisance, but my experience so far with the latest beta indicates that, as anticipated, the problem has not been resolved, but there are fewer crashes than previously. However, they still appear to be random.

Hi Tim Any news from your tools provider?

They're working on it. One crash was tracked down to a bug in Google's code which has been fixed, but goodness knows when that fix will make it into a public Android patch. There may be something we or our tools provider can do to work around the issue too, though. I've requested a status update.

It's good to know that some progress is being made, however little.
