Hi,

I use SD as a professional Helo-Pilot and I think it is the best solution for flight planning/navigation available in europe. There are two things I miss right now:

  • there a lot of free sources for weather radar overlays. It would be really nice to be able view precipitation radar on the map during flight (perhaps even with lightning data)
  • it would be very nice to be able to specify a standard height over ground (not altitude) for flight planning. every leg is automatically calculated with a user defined height over the highest point below a leg corridor.
Thank you!

Jens

I second Jens request for a weather radar overlay.

A rainfall radar that updated in flight would require an in-flight internet connection, which most subscribers do not have. Do you have a reliable internet connection in flight, then?

My preferred altitude when making a somewhat longer trip is btn 2500' and 3000'. Sometimes my iPad gets updates regarding metar and taf inflight.

Thanks for the explanation. Although I can see how useful a rainfall radar would be in flight, if it were constantly updated, we wouldn't want to implement such a feature and give people false expectations. The reality is that (depending on country of overflight) an internet connection is unreliable at best. I hate to think anybody would rely on a rainfall radar feature for real-time tactical planning of where to fly, then realise that the feature has stopped updating just when they were relying on it.

The reception quality depends on altitude and infrastructure for shure. In my case flying a helo mainly at or below 2000 Agl it is quite good most of the time. An option would be to display the rain data only when an cellular update had occured since the last i.e. 20 minutes. For non-cellular users the function could be restricted to planning only.

Tim,

I understand your reservation and accept it, but would it be possible to implement a wx overlay (not only rain) for planning purposes only?

German DWD offers Gafor information, which would suit exceptionally good for being displayed with your charts.

Best regards
Eric

Hi,

i second this request. I'm currently int he 30 day trial and comparing some solutions (currently using AirNavigation Pro and want to get rid of it). At the Moment Sky-Map and Skydemon are my Favorites. When comparing to Sky-Map the feature i'm most missing in the PC Version (for planning) is an integration of german GAFOR and rain preciption data as an overlay (only for planning purposes, not for use inside the aircraft during the flight).

Kind regards

jan

Hi there,

I already had suggested this feature, but I find also important to have an overlay with the latest IR/Visual Sat view. As a helicopter pilot myself, I find sometimes useful to avoid banks of fog, and it should be a great help to have that drawn in the SkyDemon, at least for planning purposes.

For the radar view inflight I don't find it specially useful for VFR flight, although it should be available as in IR/Visual Sat view for planning purposes.

So +1 for IR/Visual Sat view/RADAR view for planning purposes.

Best regards,

I'd love too have an inflight weather radar too. A possibility to avoid false expectations would be to let it disappear if the data is older than x minutes and no updates available due to the lack of internet.
