Exporting routes to my Garmin 296 using a MacBook

I've the full version of SkyDemon and want to export the route to my 296 but don't seem to be able to make it work? My Garmin is plugged into my Mac and sees the USB connection but I can't see the 296 on the Mac or in the SkyDemon browser, so I can add the route to it.......? All suggestions welcome. Jason
