I was going to ask for help because if I try to download more than one route from my laptop( running Windows 7 and SD version 2.7.0) onto my Garmin 496 the screen freezes and it will not even allow my to get out of the Sky Demon page when using Alt/Contl/Delete.Very frustrating!
Out of frustration I found a way of achieving multiple downloads without freezing SD. I loaded the route onto SD (laptop) removed the USB connector to the GPS and pressed "Send to device". Of course it says it is unable to connect.
Replacing the USB connection and repeating the Send routine achieves a successful transfer to the GPS. This worked six times on the trot.
I hope this posting will not only help people to overcome this same problem in the meantime but also hope it will help Tim and his team to identify what may be the cause of this problem?

Ive tried it on Lenovo laptop running Windows 7 and Samsung running Windows 8.

It was also present on a generic PC running XP but there was no delay before the error message came up.

Im using the latest Garmin USB drivers. Not sure what more I can do here?

We've looked into this in the past and found no solution. It is not clear whether it is a peculiarity of the Garmin drivers on certain PCs.

Ive just tried on Windows 7 and get the same problem as my windows 8 machine.

First transfer works ok but PC appears to go non responding on second - mouse is responsive but cant get any applications to respond.

Wait for about 15 mins and then I get and error message "Thread Exception Error".

Once this is cleared I can transfer one more route, but again the PC goes non responding on second transfer attempt.

I used to get the Thread Exception Error in XP for every second transfer however there was no period of non responding.

So problems with Window 7 & 8. Is this unique to 296 or does it affect all Garmin devices?

Skydemon, please please please look at this.

It happens to me too.

It's a bug and makes transferring multiple routes a pain.

If it's any help to the developers, it seems that having loaded or created a second route, on the request to "send to device", disk I/O is saturated to the extent that even getting Task Manager started to terminate SD takes a while.

Is anyone at SD working on it?

A

Just replaced my PC with a Windows 8 laptop. Ive installed SD 2.6 and the most up to date Garmin usb drivers.

Transferring route initially appeared to work ok however subsequent attempt dont. No error messages. SD just goes non-responding. Same with importing tracks. Problem seems to be any usb transfer after the first.

Anyone able to help?
