I did manage to get airborne and use the device last Thursday but it is still too bright at night. By the way, the high contrast chart on my device has a dark green background, not a black one.

The Mobile brightness is nowhere near low enough for night flying vision. However, I will try it this Thursday (weather permitting) with the high contrast chart. Testing it in a dark room shows an improvement but I have my doubts it will be enough. Thanks for the tip, Tim.

The Mobile MD has its own brightness setting which goes pretty low. Coupled with that is the SkyDemon "high contrast" chart style which uses black as the background colour, which can also help.

I know this is an old post but the resumption of the night-flying "season" has prompted my reply. Although it is possible to reduce the amount of backlight on the mobile device it does not do so sufficiently. It is still far too bright and affects the pilot's night vision. I seem to recall reading/hearing about this problem some time ago and that one American provider of the navigation software was looking at including a function that would reduce the backlight to an acceptable level. Does anyone know about this? Is it possible to do this with SkyDemon, Tim? The pilot should be able to progressively reduce the level of light as required.

Yes, exit the SkyDemon software and go into the device Settings menu to change the screen brightness.

Is there a way to set the screen brightness on the Mobile MD lower for night flying?
