My guess is that the GPS in your iPad will be fine, in that case.

Thanks for the advice, Tim:

I failed to mention that I'm using this in my WSC trikes. Everything is open to the top - HAH! Still, good advice. I'll start with what I have and go from there.

This iPad is set for both WiFi and 4G.

Kindest Regards,

Jim Mitchell

Jim,

I would suck it and see. If it works in your cockpit without an external box, then you are better off, because you don't have another device to have to remember to keep charged etc.

If it doesn't keep you locked on, you will have to spend about $100 on a separate box. Do make sure that it is definitely approved for the iPad. The cheap $40 units will not work. The Garmin one seems to give good results, but there are quite a few out there.

It connects via BlueTooth and then you can put it up on the coaming where it has a good view of the constellation.

My name is Jim Mitchell and I am writing from the US. I have purchased a new iPad 3 and am ready to order Skydemon - which seems to have a tremendous feature set compared to other navigation systems.

On the West Coast of the US, we have a lot of mountain ranges and deep valleys. Weather (like the UK) changes more frequently than I change my socks.

I have heard and read that the GPS function in the iPad is not sufficiently strong to hold triangulation in flight. Is that true?

Does the acquisition of a stand-alone GPS seem to work better?

If that answer is "yes", then please explain the config. of how one sets up Skydemon on the iPad and additionally connects an outboard GPS into the mix.

Any other comments, suggestions, constructive or otherwise are always appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

Jim Mitchell
