I've subscribed to the AFE plates and can get them on iPad, but every time time I try to access them on my PV I'm told I need to subscribe. How can I access them on my PC?

If you purchase the AFE plates they are available on all SkyDemon platforms that you use. Simply follow the instructions in the confirmation email to update your subscription, just like you do after a renewal.

AFE plates are not currently georeferenced. They may be in the future; this is largely up to AFE.

Many of the licensing and updates questions that have been asked here are explained clearly on the purchase page:

Tim

The licencing page does not say if I can still use the 2012 plates when the 2013 plates are available.
It does mention that it is available for all platforms that skydemon is available on, but does not say I can access it using a third party software instead of logging into skydemon.

I I want to just view and search for a plate without the rig ma roll of creating a route. Airfield cards etc....

Regards

Wayne

It states that 2012 plates will be available for download until March 2013. After that period, they will not.

They are designed to be used from within SkyDemon and are not packaged up into a format that makes them easily indexable and presentable with other software. That is not the intention of the SkyDemon plate library.

You don't have to create a route to view plates. You can right-click any airfield to view its plates at any time.

I am noticing that the digital AFE plate for Oxford Kindlington is out of date. The APP frequency changed, which seems to have happened at the end of June if I understand the AIP's page dating system correctly.

Could you clarify whether the 2012 digital AFE plates in Skydemon are updated throughout 2012, like the paper guide? Or are they fixed to what they were in 11/2011 and will only change when the 2013 guide is published in 11/2012?

Thanks!

It's the AFE 2012 guide, the same one you can buy in a shop. They are not updated and will be superceded with the 2013 plates when those are available.

Having spoken to AFE on the question of georeferencing, the concern they have is that a significant number of airfields have not provided surveyed maps, particularly smaller the places. This means that the GPS position of the aircraft may appear significant distances away from the runways or taxiways. This could be countered by only offering georeferencing on properly surveyed fields, or by issuing a disclaimer on the others but I think it is well worth doing and would put Skydemon at an advantage against the competition.

This will be up to the plate publisher, at the end of the day. I foresee that if AFE choose to provide georeferenced plates it might be bit by bit, with not all airfields happening at once. This would be fine by us.

I think the arrangement for the AFE Guide needs a bit of careful thought, both from SD and AFE.

The paper AFE guide has monthly amendments, and I think I am correct in saying these are not fed through in the electronic version.

In addition the 2013 paper edition comes out at the beginning of December, so it isn't overly attractive to purchase at this time of year.

Personally, I would prefer to see a Pooley's type of deal, where one can download the whole guide (using, say, Goodreader) and have it permanently available for browsing and one could synch regularly. Just because one sets out from A to B with alternate C doesn't mean you're not going to want info on D and E, especially if decisions are being made when airborne.

Having said that, I'd always prefer to have both versions, or at least when the electronic version is updated and available in complete form.

Surely the main advantage of electronic data is to have the most up-to-date info transmitted as soon as it's available. SD chart updates are a good example of best practice. At present the AFE info via SD could be easily over 12 months old - if not longer.

No it couldn't, the 2013 AFE plates will supercede the 2012 ones as soon as they are released in December. The updating cycle to those hasn't been fully decided yet, so just stay tuned. The 2012 plates have proved to be amazingly popular among subscribers.
