If you are offline, SkyDemon cannot obtain the latest forecast data. It may already have obtained forecast data, and if it has, it will use it. Offline means SkyDemon will not fetch any new forecast data. It would be a mistake to state that if you are offline, SkyDemon has no forecast data. In the case where no data is available, though, SkyDemon will revert to nil wind and show a warning.

I found the following menu option:
Setup > Communications Options

Which has 3 options:
1) Offline
2) Online during planning only
3) Online during planning and flying

So I assume by "online" you mean able to get data (notam/taf/metar/plates and PLOG winds) and offline you can't with the winds defaulting to 000/00 ?

Not directly. Once the weather is in memory it never goes away, but since it's a forecast within a specific time window it may cease to be correct. If you've been aviation and hence had no availability of internet connection, it might be that when you go back to planning mode SkyDemon is able to refresh its forecast and get the latest data. By default that's how SkyDemon is set up on the iPad: not to attempt any communications while in navigation mode.

Thanks Tim
I had a play the other week, this time I didn't press "stop navigating" until I was on the ground for the last time. This would imply that the winds are stored in memory when you press "go flying" and remain that way until you press "stop navigating", does that sound correct?
Cheers

SkyDemon always keeps the latest weather in memory, changing your route does not affect this. Reversing your route should never result in nil wind being assumed. Please re-check.

The iPad app has no facility for specifying user-defined winds at present.

Hi

Looking at SD Plan on Windows there is an option to use auto weather or user defined weather for the various legs, how do you do this using the ipad app?

On a similar note, with a return flight you press the "reverse route" button to sort out the new headings etc But on doing that if you are sat in the aircraft and have no wifi the ipad will not be able to get the latest weather and sets all winds to 000/00. How do you reverse a route and keep the same weather loaded?

Does anyone know the basics of how and when SD ipad gets the latest weather/notams/plates both during planning and also after hitting "go flying" ? Does it make any difference which order we press the "reverse course", "go flying" and "stop navigating" buttons?

cheers

Graham
