But what happens to the iPAD when you depressurise above 10,000ft as this is its max. operating altitude ;-)
Many thanks for your reply.

Hi.
I have the iPad 3 Wi-Fi 4G 64Gb Black (MD368B) and have **not** activated the cellular functionality.
I have used both SkyDemon and NavFree apps and received GPS data on both whilst away from home ie *no* Wi-Fi connection.
You can find more info on the following link.
http://gps.about.com/od/accessories/a/New-Ipad-Gps.htm
Hope this helps.

Steve
I used mine in exactly that configuration just the other day between MCO and MIA and it worked perfectly (even at FL220 and 430 kts)

I am looking at purchasing a new iPAD 3 with WiFi & cellular connection.
According to Apple's specification this has
ASSISTED
GPS & GLONASS connectivity.
What I have been trying to find out is whether the iPAD GPS/GLONASS functions with an autonomous/standalone signal. ie without the WiFi or cellular assist.
I have contacted Apple who are unable to give me a straight answer!
Any information gratefully received.
