Thanks Tim & all,

I'm just on the point of buying my first iPad, in order to run SD on a new panel I'm laying out.

I assume from the dialogue here that it's 'safe' to go for an iPad 3, but please correct me, if necessary.

The better the iPad, the better SkyDemon will run. You will really notice the difference between the different hardware versions, and the difference between the iPad1 and iPad2 (in terms of responsiveness) is the biggest.

Our update to fully support the iPad3 is still pending, and when that's released SkyDemon will become a lot smoother on that platform and take advantage of the retina display for crystal-clear maps.

Even the iPad 2 will show quite a performance difference to the original iPad, but the New iPad is even better.

I tested SkyDemon on Saturday on the New iPad from Bournemouth International to Dunkeswell and back. Brilliant, it worked flawlessly on both legs, the iPad has a wonderful display and SD looks and feels great on this device, everthing you need is at hand and metars etc updating on route with the 4G model. Direct sunlight on the screen makes it a little more difficult to read but I fly with it on my left knee and fly left handed so no problem as my arm shields it a treat. Flying a Robin HR200 there is just enough room to have it on either knee without blocking any access to trim wheel fuel cut off etc. If I could fault anything it would be when pinching in and out for zoom it stutters slightly but nothing to shout about, map rendering when flying is smooth and as I said before on the new iPad retina display screen SkyDemon looks and works fantastic.

I have used both SkyDemon and AirNavPro on an iPad 1 and found that the interface is slow.
It takes quite some time to generate the map while zooming in /out. Walking through the menu's is slow as well.

How is the performance on the iPad 2? Has anyone tested SkyDemon on the "New iPad" yet?

I'm thinking about selling my iPad 1 and buying a iPad 3 solely for the smooth user experience I'm currently missing.
Is it worth it? Would the iPad 3 be faster? With the resolution 4 times higher it will cost a lot more power to generate the image.
