This was a bug in the first release of SkyDemon for iPad. The subsequent release fixed it. It's always worth checking in the App Store from time to time to see whether there's a new release available.

I had the same issue. The way I went round it was by disabling the UK chart. This deleted it from the Ipad and then I just reinstalled it like you would add any new chart.

When accessing an existing or creating a new route (southern England) i get a message saying a new chart is available for download. When I do to the download page attempt to do that the icon chugs happily from one side to the other and then stops - permanently. A message sating the download is in progress remains, but indefinitely. Pressing cancel simply goes back to the start of the download sequence again. It's not possible to go back into the program again without rebooting the machine. But even then, the same message about out of date chart returns. No other problems and the planning runs fine with the allegedly out of date chart. Any ideas?
