It does make sense, thanks. Surely that area would be about the size of a postage stamp? I wonder if part of this issue is that you're using SkyDemon on a very small screen?

Here is a picture of how Garmin 296/496 displays runways and, if known, whether left or right hand

(how do you display inline?)

The device I'm using is an Airspace Aware WinCE device (although the screen captures above were done on a laptop in sim mode).

The circuit depiction in the 1st image is perfectly readable on the Aware device so I don't think that displaying the circuit shown in the 3rd image would be any less readable. I haven't tried it on other devices and I'm happy to accept that you may have seen/used devices where there is not enough space. I realise that this is a very minor point and may not be worth spending so much time on.

Another enhancement would be to display 'LH' and 'RH' buttons somewhere on the screen (or a single LH/RH toggle button) to select the required circuit direction and then only display the selected circuit direction for clarity with standard joins something like this:

BTW do you have any feedback from my suggestion made in this post?

Simon

I have just installed the latest beta on my windows tablet that i have always used with SD and it appears the click and hold (right click) menus dont work. Since installing the beta I can no longer click and hold on a map feature and get up any extra menus which are obviously vital. I was running in simulator mode when I tried it but this worked jiust fine previously.

I think it's now left click and hold instead of right click to bring up the menu.

There was a minimum needed 40mm separation between runway ends to draw the circuit depiction; we've changed that to 30mm and we'll see how we get on.

Stuart, thanks for pointing this out. Our transition to the new mapping engine did not bring across this piece of code and this has now been fixed. We'll post a new beta this afternoon and your confirmation as to whether the problem has been addressed for you would be appreciated.

That seems much better now.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the feedback. A number of these issues have now been resolved and we'll be posting an updated beta this afternoon, hoping for general release this weekend. The swiping gestures weren't purposefully removed, that was a bug.

The size of the runway end buttons is defined in inches and should be just right, unless you've set a DPI for your device which is not its actual DPI. By all means post screenshots of any such issues to give us some more insight.

Map rendering now happens in the background to keep the map responsive, and this will lead to a very slight slowdown. I suspect the slowness you're seeing is much larger, though, and is because in the current beta we still had one important optimization left to turn on. This has now been done, so in this afternoon's beta you should see a speed improvement.

We may add selection of a specific circuit direction in a future release if lots of people are after that feature.

I tried out the latest 2.3 beta on an airbus yesterday and at greater than 200 knots the map redrawing couldn't keep up such that the terrain didn't reappear and the screen remained blue (i.e. as if over water). Previous versions (before new engine) worked fine under similar conditions using same device (4.3" Aware)

Doober2004 - Same here, it keeps the signal OK but just a sea of blue.
