I notice that V2.4.2 has a bit of a typo on the Ipad sunset/sunrise feature. It appears as SUNRISE and SUNRISE. Trivial really since it is obvious what is meant but worth putting right on a future version perhaps. Great software though.

We've added sunrise and sunset times into the forthcoming 2.4.2 version.

Before SkyDemon came along I used AeroWeather for most of the weather related info, now I only really use it to get sunrise/sunset info. So this gets my vote also.

Hi Everyone

This gets my vote too. In the meantime, for those of you with an Android device, search Google Play (formerly Android Market) for an app called Sundroid. Using your device's built-in GPS, it will calculate sunrise and sunset for your current position, and you can save any number of locations, your home airfield for instance, for later recall. There's a free version so you can evaluate at no cost, but the paid for version is worth every penny.

Dear Tim,
Thanks for this great sofware!
I would like to have the implemantation to show sunset/rise time implemented. My college friend/pilot Stefan did ask me if I could ask this for him too.
As seen on the garmin 596 we could see the sunset time so we know when to leave to get back in time (before sunset).
I can imagine it's not a high priority but it should be nice to have.
Maeby it can be implemented with the date/time in the gps. Should be local timezone as set in the unit.
Thanks again!
Kind Regards,

Gets my vote.

A simple practical tool that would be very useful would be a post-flight analysis type thing that could tell me what time I passed sunset/sunset+30. That would make filling in my logbook much, much easier!

To make it very clever, how about a predicted radius of action before sunset/sunset+ xmins? On request, and based on current speed, draw an area that you can still get to before sunset at that point. I accept that could be a fairly big number cruncher... but a challenge for someone out there!

We do hear this request from time to time and will probably get around to it at some point. It's not at the top of the priority list but perhaps it'll get there if more people contribute to this thread saying how it would be useful to them.

It would be really useful as part of a complete VFR planning solution to have the facility to calculate sunrise and sunset times for your current GPS position and for other airports or locations, as can be done for example with Garmin 296. Formulae accurate to a minute or two (at least between -72 and +72 latitude) are freely downloadable from NOAA. For now I've coded them in MortScript as an add-on, but it would be a really useful addition to the product (at least for me as the pilot of a strictly Day VFR permit machine).
