Overall experience with 2.2.0 had been excellent - Well done.

However there are the following points of feedback, experienced on a route between a private strip in the Manchester Low Level Corridor and Sywell, routing Ashcroft, PEDIG, potentially CT.

1) If you route via CT - partly to create a warning of crossing their centreline, as you zoom in and out, the symbol for CT NDB moves away from where the waypoint is in the planner. As you zoom out the symbol moves to East of ANSTY.

2) On the PLOG, with RNAV turned on, it gave the frequencies and Ident for HON and DTY, but not for MCT and TNT, which were the RNAV options presented for Ashcroft and PEDIG

3) On the return trip, as my destination was a Private strip, but the last waypoint before was Ashcroft, SD on an Ipaq tried to direct me off track to the East to intercept the Ashcroft centreline. Of note the wind was adverse that day for that centreline anyway. It was only about 5 degrees off track, so I was confused when following the SD, my RNAV track was diverging, until I noticed the SD was going for the centreline.

4) Partly to avoid the above point 3 ( other than routing via NANTI instead ) would it be possible to define User waypoints as Airfields - ideally including a Runway direction? If the User Interface development was too tricky / time consuming for this, could you allow additional XML in the userwaypoints.xml file - and a sample that could be edited from a template?

Thanks

Another very minor niggle with 2.2:

The print centre has buttons for 'last page' and 'next page', maybe 'previous page' would be less ambiguous than 'last page' which has caught me out a couple of times.

Hello Mike,

1. NDBs are always dynamically moved away from airfields if their symbol would overlap the airfield symbol, just like the CAA chart does. A dotted line is drawn connecting them to the airfield and their exact location. I assume this is what you are seeing.

2. This is a bug that we know about and has been fixed for the forthcoming 2.2.1 version.

3. SkyDemon will never adjust the route you have entered on its own, and direct you anywhere other than to your last waypoint. The exception is if you are actually on final approach to a runway at your destination, the instruments will switch into approach mode and will guide you down the centreline. However SkyDemon will not switch into this mode until you're within 5 degrees of the extended centreline and are flying down it.

4. We actually ship unsupported tools with SkyDemon to create your own airfields. Look at Setup -> Create Custom Data and you can use that tool to create a custom airfields file with as many airfields in it as you like, including runway information.

I hope this helps.

Tim,

Thanks for the reply - very helpful.

Ref the NDB, it was on my route to remind me to check in with Coventry, so I actually routed from PEDIG ( LIC to you and me ) and then onwards to Sywell. When actually flying I tend to cut the corner to stay further away from Coventry, but it reminds me to talk to them as I cross the centreline - so when you zoom out the track misses the apparent NDB.

Ref the course change - my actual course WAS within 5deg of Ashcroft on approaching the Low Level route, heading for my final (non airfield) destination - it just spooked me when my RNAV and Skydemon started to conflict. I presume if I define my strip as an airfield, I won't experience the same problem.

Not too sure about this feature - sometimes when I approach Barton from the West, but 27 is in use, it presents 09 - even if the wind is adverse. Should it ask - offer different runways?

Tim can I ask about the limits set for SD to switch the localiser and glideslope on in the instrument panel, while approaching an airfield?

SkyDemon presents all runways as you approach an airfield, and highlights the one that most closely lines up with your position. At some point in the future we will probably present a UI so you can choose the runway you'll be landing on early, which will eliminate the display of the others and set up the ILS.

For the ILS to activate currently, you have to be within 5 degrees of the extended centreline and pointing roughly towards the threshold (within 10 degrees of it, from memory).
