Goodwood airfield is currently running a TIS-B trial, where Mode S (MLAT) aircraft positions are rebroadcast by a TIS-B transmitter.
I reconfigured my SE2 to receive TIS-B, vice FLARM, and went for a flight around the Goodwood area.

All seemed to work well and I detected rebroadcast aircraft positions that could be identified by a "#" prefix to the aircraft's registration.
I was also surprised to see a new symbol on my SD map.
It was a "tower" type symbol, located on the airfield, that was mostly coloured green, but occasionally red.

It was obviously the TIS-B transmitter but I am not sure how its position was sent to SD and also what the green and red colours signified.

I have looked in the latest SD manual but couldn't find any info on TIS-B or the tower symbol, unless I was searching for the wrong terms.

Can you please explain this?

Thanks

Tony

Part of the UAT broadcast includes the location of the broadcasting station. That's why we show it.

We implemented the colours during our previous trials, and they broadly indicate how often you are receiving data from the UAT station. Given that it should be broadcasting pretty much continuously, the colours therefore end up indicating how reliably you are receiving that data.

Tim,

Thanks.
So the colour of the "Tower" symbol isn't an indication of Tower/TIS-B status as such, but SkyDemon's interpretation of how often I receive data  from that installation?
