Hi

Is there a way to input a postcode of a private site (hotel, etc) in Sky Demon Light or Sky Demon, rather than using airfields only?

Thanks

No there isn't, but we are considering ways to make this happen. We obviously wouldn't want to include such large and country-specific databases within SkyDemon itself, but we may create a web service that would link into SkyDemon at the route-planning stage and would turn postcodes into the lat/lon data that SkyDemon needs to create a waypoint.

Not sure how well this would work, some postcode areas are probably quite large if they're out in the country aren't they?

Indeed, but those areas with large postcode sectors are sparsely populated so you'll still probably find what you're looking for!

Not if it's a grass strip in amongst a load of other similar looking fields Smile

You're not likely to be looking for a grass strip using its non-existent postcode though!

I did not know that fields and grass strips have postal codes. Smile

I'm assuming that the grass strip isn't just a mowed runway in a random field, but would actually have some sort of buildings there (that are likely to have an address!)

Yes but in a rural area, they may share the same postcode with an area of dozens (or even hundreds) of acres.

Postcodes are great if you want to bimble over your office or a mates house, but I'd say they are of very limited use for locating a farm strip.

In my view there is only one way to do this properly  .. lat/long. So if you don't have it, use Google Earth to get it (starting with an approximation from the PostCode). Then create an airfield for future use  .. you cd even share it with the rest of us!

Lets not clutter up SD with fudges.
