I outputted a file from plan in GPX format.  Sarum to Dunkeswell via a waypoint south east Yeovil. Tried to input the file to Garmin Mapsource but the application couldn't import the file. Tested the file on EasyGPS and noted that the waypoint had no name. Error message on EasyGPS '  contains waypoints that do not have name..'. Assumed that was the problem trying to input to Mapsource. Could default names be added to waypoints with no names to rectify the problem please.

We don't give nameless points in space a <name> attribute, because they have no name. We don't think this is a problem and it certainly conforms to the GPX specification. Software that has a problem accepting GPX files without a <name> attribute for every point should be fixed. Having said that, if there were a compromise such that we included a <name> attribute and made it empty, and that worked, we would consider implementing that.

I had a similar problem. I created a GPX file of a plog in Skydemon light and sent it to some friends to get them started on a fly-out we were planning. Some of them couldn't load the GPX onto a number of different devices. The advice they gave me was that for full compatibility, the Tag should be either

empty - open chevron name close chevron open chevron slash name close chevron

or - open chevron name slash close chevron

Excuse the longhand, when I try to put the actual codes in they seem to disappear on the post.

I'm not familiar with GPX protocols, so I don't know what this means, but I hope that it is helpful.

I can confirm that we have included an name element (empty if necessary) for all GPX outputs in the latest codebase, and this will be reflected in the next published version.
