I've just seen that we can set an Alternate, which is brilliant and I like the way it's presented on the Plog.

To enhance this further, can we have a "Set 2nd Alternate" alongside the existing one.

Thanks

You haven't said what operational requirement you have that would be satisfied by your suggestion. Could you expand on it please?

For IFR, if the weather is below minima at your destination, you must have an alternate, which is what we can do now in SD.

If the weather is below minima at both destination and alternate, then a 2nd alternate must be included too.

It would also mean that a flight plan is automatically populated with the second alternate.

It does raise the question of whether the route to the second alternate should be depicted direct from the primary destination, or daisy-chained from the second. This might result in signifiant differences in fuel planning.

A second alternate which feeds into a filed flight-plan does make sense for VFR flights too - for example, a flight across the English Channel might quite easily divert before or after the water crossing, but (depending on the cause of the diversion) is less likely to make a second water crossing.

You can have a second alternate, just type it into the flightplan form before filing it. It would be a good deal of work adding the concept of a second alternate in our route planning engine, merely to save you the hassle of typing it into the flightplan form. As someone else said, if we introduced this there would be some doubt as to whether we considered it a leg from your first alternate, or directly from your planned destination.
