You're right. Looking at the code, we only give a Route Direct option if the chosen waypoint is actually a waypoint. A defined waypoint, that is, not an unnamed point in space.
Since this is the first bit of feedback on this particular topic we have seen, perhaps you could explain the need for routing direct to an unnamed point in space? How do you know where it is? Presumably this isn't as a result of an ATC request.
