I suspect that you simply cannot "route direct" to a waypoint you are already routing directly to.

You're right. Looking at the code, we only give a Route Direct option if the chosen waypoint is actually a waypoint. A defined waypoint, that is, not an unnamed point in space.

Since this is the firs‌‌t bit of feedback on this particular topic we have seen, perhaps you could explain the need for routing direct to an unnamed point in space? How do you know where it is? Presumably this isn't as a result of an ATC request.

I can imagine a usecase for this: you define "free" turning points for your route (eg. road/railway crossing, etc..) to circumnavigate a controlled area and you get a clearance go cross the controlled zone. this would result in a direct to your next turning point at the other side of the controlled area you are clear to cross.

I agree, but you would be unlikely to want this from the PLOG screen. On the map you'd scroll to the other side of the controlled airspace, observe your turning point, touch it and select Route Direct.

I set this point to circumnavigate the Austrian Hohe Tauern bird sanctuary area, which was discussed extensively in another thread ;-)

As a Garmin 495 user, I'm just used to select the next direct to from the list of turning points rather than picking it from the map. It was the only nameless point and clearly to identify.

There is always a reason for SkyDemon behaviour. Usually the reason is lots and lots of experience of the way people use our software, and the desire to make it as easy as possible.
