Hi All,

I'm in the process of buying a Garmin Glo, and Ipad mini to install SD too.

Of I buy the wifi only ipad, does this allow notams and weather to be updated inflight via GPS, or will I always have old data based on when I was last on wifi.

Thanks‌‌‌

Hi John,

Which WLAN should your iPad get connected to when flying? GPS doesn't provide weather and notams!

Thanks Eric, i'll likely be on a WLAN an hour before flight. I may buy an Ipad with SIM to ensure that I always have the latest data.

I run SD on my Samsung smartphone and successfully get met updates while in the cruise.
Not always 100% cellphone coverage when airborne but adequate for typical GA flights.

I don't do it every time, but if I deem it necessary to obtain Met/NOTAM updates in flight, I turn on my phone's WiFi hotspot and then connect my Nexus 7 tablet to the hotspot. It works faultlessly every time.
